a month ago. you can talk about SEC, unethical CEO etc you know it don't mean jack.
This stock is a jumping bean. Cash flow in the future is all that will untimately matter.
That's why I saw it could have bottomed, at least for a few quarters. That's because we all
know that for the moment, JCP looks less likely to BK than it did. I'm not saying it looks unlikely, just less likely for now. Yes shorts should be nervous. They may
be proved right in a year, or maybe not. But the nearer term looks like a damn stupid short anywhere
below 9. And if they are wrong about the longer term they will have wished they followed the short term trade.
so you think because they lost with consumers they will lose with enterprise, is that what you're saying?
show us how the prices at JCP on whole are lower than at other stores like target etc. love to see that.
Foolish final thoughts
It appears there's an industry tailwind on J.C. Penney's side, but the initial data so far suggests J.C. Penney may be sailing successfully on its own. While one month doesn't necessarily make a trend, Foolish investors may want to keep J.C. Penney on watch. If management truly is successful at turning the company around, it could potentially become a lucrative long-term investment.
it possible. 7 was prior bottom range (though it hit 6.25 for a day). If cause of rally off of 7 is till in place, then high 7's could be low now. SEC, Bass, neither a big deal. Can JCP get cash flow positive in a year or so? That's the question, though, is the cause of that rally still in place?
uhhhh, let's see... as loss 1/3 as bad as this quarter, huge improvement in a single quarter...
yes, please hold that short.
the last time it rallied off a fresh low and then turned back down it took about 3 mos for it to break down past the previous low.
Doubt there will be a positive surprise, but after past write-downs and selling a little of that inventory, and tax refund, well, I suppose it's possible that cash could not go down, or even improve. Market would like that also.
I think it will be up a little before earnings, and if no really good news, they may take it back down. But if market likes the way new CEO sounds about things it could be up a bit after CC also.
