First, I am not a technical person. Perhaps someone from industry can answer better. But, I also added this last time they got the $5 million........I have also read reports that telecoms are paying cities millions to put boosters on top of their utility lines. I also suspect EVC isn't elaborating on this as they don't want competition from other broadcasters. They may have found their own little gold mine on the ground. DaninFW

Anyone invested in this sector needs to pull up all recent news on Scripps and what the CEO and VP have to say. In a nutshell, they see a wave of M&A after the auction as companies that don't sell their spectrum or can't get what they want for it will want out of the business. They also seek to pick up channels of content providers where others sell out and have more duopolies. I would add that I said months ago that companies that sell their spectrum could turn around and buyout the companies that don't. This is out in left field but let's say SBGI was dumb enough not to sell spectrum and EVC did and say got $2 billion+/- for spectrum......EVC could turn around and buyout SBGI. That would be a minnow swallowing a whale. But, that gives you a glimpse of what could happen in this sector after the auction. Going to get interesting even after the auction. DaninFW

Sorry guys, posting as I can. I am traveling in New York and Pennsylvania at present. The $5.5 million is exactly the same revenue they received in Q1 which was $5 million then. That was the only reason they beat expect in Q1. Can't remember if it was mentioned in conference call or presentation in Q1 but it was something about adjusting their towers to allow a telecom company to better use their spectrum or something like that. They said then they expected more in Q3 or Q4 but not in Q2. Wherever I heard or read it, there was little or no expense associated with it. They will look great in Q3 as this will drop corporate expense %, operating expense %, etc. and they really didn't accomplish anything. It always fools the analysts. I would add it is an awesome deal they are doing. However, they use it to disguise poor management. DaninFW

Hope everyone did well this last ride. I tried to buy another 50,000 at $6.90 yesterday and should have paid $6.95. Didn't get a single extra share. I also tried to buy 30,000 MEG at $11.60 when it bottomed at $11.40 and popped back to $11.80. I thought it would come back down and didn't. Greed sometimes gets you. However, I did sell 30,000 shares of the 50,000 I bought last week at $7.95-$8.045 in the last 3-4 minutes of trading today. I think my current goal will be to trade and buy at $7.25-$7.35 and sell at $7.90+......for those that didn't listen to the call, EVC reported in the call they received $5.5 million for telecom spectrum which is almost 100% profit. That alone is good for 6 cents pre-tax EPS. Main reason for pop today IMVHO. DaninFW

I bought 200,000 HOV in $2.30's and will add more when it finally bottoms. Can't believe the carnage. I made about a half million trading EVC last 12-18 months. Bought 50,000 shares last week and sold 30,000 today when it was up 16% for the day. EVC is worth $12+ just as a spectrum play. I just trade till then......GLTA. Daninfw

I agree. USCR is still hot. I had over a million profit. I may look at USCR calls the next two quarters a week or two before reports. I still like HOV and looking to average down. I really like EVC as a spectrum play and want to load up before it takes off again. Also, thinking of CX as a cement play that is behind sector. Also, buying PBY on dips as I expect buyout announcement any time now.GLTA DaninFW

I think $60-70 is a given. I did sell all warrants today as I think I can make better elsewhere. Good luck. I made over a million on this play. DaninFW

EVC beat by a penny and I am not using 100% accurate numbers but rounding as I am on vacation. The numbers sucked IMVHO and gives even more reason they need to sell 100% of their spectrum and walk away. The CEO controls company with 10%+/- of the shares and he was also stupid enough to give Univision a trump card with another 10%. Quick points before conference call. 1) Expenses in radio went up about 80%+/- of the increased revenues therefore very little benefit. They lied and said corporate overhead was down but it wasn't. If you backed out the Pulpo expense from last year it actually increased apples to apples. Then they were down a few million in revenues from last year but expenses were actually up almost $4 million. I could tear this apart. It's a shame the CEO is so incompetent. Let's see how smart the analysts are....... I will buy if this thing tanks because it's worth more dead than alive. DaninFW

CBS reported after the close today. Their NBC broadcast stations were down 2% in revenue and down 7% in operating income. Not good......for sector tomorrow. DaninFW

  • In the morning will be interesting as Univision reports before open and EVC after close. I still think something of import to be announced by both. Sector crashed today because of DIS report but many said it was cable declines.....WRONG! The cable sector operating profit was up 7% while broadcast was down 15%!!! DIS cited higher programming costs, higher payroll and reduced advertising dollars for broadcast. DING

I give you credit. You have made a good call. I got in too soon but will average down. As you said, I am waiting now to see a bottom. I just can't see much lower. Your $1.53 may be it but I think a little higher. GLTA DaninFW

I forgot to mention I have been doing a lot of trading in PBY's last few weeks. I buy 20,000-30,000 shares and usually sell in 1-3 days for a quick 20-30 cent per share profit. I may well buy 50,000 if I sell the warrants and just hold for what I think will actually be a buyout of PBY after posting on the PBY message board for 20 years this year. PBY has always been worth more dead than alive. DaninFW

Good to see you are still kicking. Hope all is well. I still think HOV is going to be a double or triple next 6-18 months. I have 200,000 shares bought about 10%+ or so higher than current price. Didn't think it would drop this low but didn't want to miss a big pop. If it stays at this price I will easily buy another 100,000 at $2 or less probably this week or next. I have almost 70,000 USCXW's and USCRW's I bought in the $3-4 range and I currently have the biggest win ever at over a million profit. I hope to sell them this week or next at $20-24. I am staying about 70% cash right now and have been for over a year but I will put most of this $1.5 million+/- back into HOV, CX and EVC over time. DaninFW

I think I answered your post. Tomorrow is going to be a BIG day for USCR. VMC and MLM report before open. The report and conference call will give us great insight on what to expect from USCR. CX has already reported and U.S. was a great positive in their report. Weather is the #1 concern and how much it effected them. However, expect has been lowered dramatically. Forward guidance and what to expect from recent acquisitions could be a big catalyst for a $2-3 pop IMVHO. DaninFW

Of course. Univision could deny EVC to sell spectrum in a market solely because they want EVC to telecast while they sell their spectrum.

I missed your message till a friend sent me an e-mail. I hate this new Yahoo format. Univision has announced plans for an IPO about a month or so ago. You can google a lot of news on it. Televisa has already reported results on 7-07-15 you should also google and read. Their results were very negatively effected especially apples to apples against World Cup last year. Keep in mind, IMVHO EVC is a spectrum play. Over the past year or so I have moved up my price target.....but based purely on financial metrics and stand alone businesses, EVC is worth $5-6 a share. Wedbush says $5 and $4 for the spectrum. I personally think spectrum could be $10+ a share so that would be $15+. It's possible someone could pay $6-7 for core business as EVC is worst managed company in the sector. One must also remember that EVC is only 2/3 broadcast company and the other 1/3 which is radio is a dying business IMVHO. At one time I thought this could be worth a bunch more but I now believe Univision will keep them from maximizing their spectrum. Sure, they could get $2 billion for spectrum which would be $14 a share after tax and in that scenario EVC could be worth $20. I believe that's pie in the sky now, possible but not probably IMVHO. Hope that helps. DaninFW

    Something Big Is Up

I watch CX every single day but didn't on the day it crashed........would have loaded up. Am starting to think about unloading some or all USCR warrants this week if it pops $3-4+. My logic now is that CX at $8 could easily go to $13, but at $12 it's a 50% move. With the warrants at say $20 they would have to go to $30 for same profit. I have over a million profit now on the USCR warrants. May take some or all off the table end of week. I also posted where Univision changed their report dates. Very interesting. I can see where they would change the release or conference call times but not both. I know the CFO at EVC was asked about it and didn't respond. Instead, Univision changes their report dates/times. Not coincidental IMVHO or Univision would not have changed. They got busted. Thursday should be interesting. If nothing big comes out it means they changed their minds. DaninFW

On 7-27-15, Univision did a press release sating earnings after close on 8--06 and conference call at 5:00 P.M. to match EVC. Mcbdan pointed it out as I missed it........but three days later, on 7-30-15, Univision deleted the first press release and now are reporting before open and conference call at 11:00 A.M. ET on 8-06-15. Really weird. First off, the analysts that follow this sector could not have participated in both calls. I am 100% convinced now that something is or was up. Will be very interesting Thursday. I do not look for good numbers from Univision so that could hurt EVC during the day till they report after close. Let's hope something good is announced but it would be dumb now for Univision to have a conference call and then 6 hours later make a major announcement. DaninFW
