BSA had the gay ban in place for a very long time, and in fact the United States Supreme Court, on June 28, 2000 in BSA vs. Dale sided with the BSA in allowing them to have just such a ban. For the past dozen years, both UPS and CAT made sizable contributions to BSA. But now they have decided to exert some pressure by very loudly announcing they will no longer support BSA because of this discrimination. BSA partially caved in, but not enough to satisfy anyone. The new "policy" is to accept gay youth, but ban gay adults. That did not get them back in the social engineering graces of CAT or UPS or anyone else, and just made a bunch of other folks mad at them, so now they have the worst of both worlds. Maybe if CAT and UPS had not made a big show of cutting them off, they would continue as the Supreme Court had authorized.

    1. I supported the old BSA and its policies. 2. CAT and UPS exerted pressure that promoted a change in core values of BSA. 3. I do not support the new BSA.

Your line is: A: BSA barred gay leaders. B. That action prompted the reaction from yourself (no longer supporting the "new" BSA.

Barring gay leaders did not prompt my withdrawal from support, it was the change in core values.

One other point: I place 90 % of the blame for the caving on BSA and its president Wayne Brock and the National Commissioner Tico Pererz. They are the leaders who have no backbone at all. They "sold out the ranch" for a few dollars (which they still won't get) and a few kind words from the liberal press.

I regarded BSA as an absolutely wonderful organization, but now, in part because of UPS and CAT pressure, the organization has significantly changed. To use your terms, yes, I am "disenfranchising" myself from the "new" BSA since it is no longer has the moral standing that the "old" BSA had. They are two entirely separate BSAs in their core values. I supported the old one, I do not support the new one. And I am very disappointed in CAT and UPS for bringing down the old one.

Hard to figure out what the point was when you stumble so badly with the use of words. Your question about "where are you going to get your drugs?" , would seem to imply source, but then you flop over to "...who will deliver your drugs" which is then not about source, but rather delivery. Maybe you could put your feet up, have a nice cool drink (probably kool-aid) and try to compose something coherent and lucid. By the way, it is common to end a communication, put a comma, and then sign it. Is STUPID your regular signature?

To answer your question, I believe this signals a fundamental change in the Boy Scouts of America. It is clearly not the organization in which I have been a member for about 50 years. The organization I supported no longer exists.

CAT has been in the news after announcing they would no longer support Boy Scouts because of their bar on gay leaders. UPS took a similar position a few months ago.
Last week, I had a choice in shipping sources for something I ordered...I told them I would not buy from them is they used UPS, so they sent the package with another shipper. I will continue to look for ways to avoid UPS. I will have absolutely no impact on UPS, but maybe there are some others out there.

The senior czar says "End of debate" so I guess we all have to accept his well thought out position, and just shut up. Or could it be that he is just dropping out of the debate himself......we could be so lucky!

Talk about a "broken record": Is it possible for richoncat to make a post without using the words "protected class"? We all have heard that from you about a zillion times.

I am doing the exact same thing (sell off all CAT)...I am going to feel a little "dirty" whenever I get a dividend check from CAT or something else in the mail. Let someone else have all that stuff if they want it. There are lots of other excellent investment vehicles

It is just great to have a constitutional scholar that can give such firmly planted legal, not opinions, but absolute beyond challenge rulings. I would certainly support "richoncat" for consideration next time there is an opening on the United States Supreme Court. He has an amazing grasp of all matters legal for someone who dropped out of high school.

    1. The supreme court of the United States ruled in Boy Scouts of America vs. Dale on, June 28, 2000, that the BSA could exclude gays. How do your reconcile that with your illegal comment?
    2. Girl Scout participation is in the tank, partly because they stand for nothing anymore. 2006 there were 312 councils, now they are down to 112. 1991 they declared no position on sexuality, 1993 God was dropped from their promise. All that liberal stuff started a death spiral for Girl Scouts.
    3. CAT can do whatever they want, and I can hold them in disgust if I want!

Another great company that I now hold in disdain. I sure hope John Deere doesn't go stupid.
