Bashious, you've been sitting on that short position for a long time, waiting for the final payoff. But you're not gonna get it!
I know it's tough for mean and stupid people to learn, but try. Blackberry isn't really in the handset business anymore, they dumped it on this company call FoxConn. QNX software isn't primarily sold for handsets, it powers cars, powerplants, drones, the BMW model you wish you owned but can't afford is powered by QNX. Secondly, they have this great service where they actually manage security networks for government agencies that is highly secure. Please don't cost yourself so much money.
The Street, the Valley and the Chinese don't care about BBRY. Chen delivered billions in stock value on Sybase so the Street loves him, he's delivering billions to Chinese in manufacturing revenue so they love him. And the Valley execs love him because they get new management gigs, displacing all the top people in Waterloo with Americans. The hardware side of business, the one you're focusing on, is disappearing from the balance sheet so naturally you will hate him for costing you so much money!
For some reason Short sellers don't understand that the company has dumped the handset business on Foxconn. This is what makes it so enjoyable to make money at their expense.
Actually I'm impressed by his stupidity and meanness. It's a rare combination! After he loses everything and becomes homeless someone will find him near a pond shouting insults at frogs.
Didn't you read what Chen did, He dumped the cellphone business on FoxConn, blackberry makes devices in name only now. FoxConn isn't some chicken little outfit, they'll keep making the phones for emerging markets. Blackberry still makes tons of money off security software. If QNX and BB messenger become monetized, then the company is worth a fortune without handset business.
The phones aren't where the money's at Sergeant #$%$. Think about it, BBRY rising during CES Show is no coincidence. I will enjoy every dollar I make at your expense!
After (sort of) watching a couple of Kardashian episodes on E, I went to the Willow Grove Mall this weekend. PacSun definitely has foot traffic. There's no question this is the place you want to shop if you're a teenager and want to get laid:) Zumiez is good too but it's a little too sporty. HotTopic skews to a slightly younger crowd.
Do you think Thorsten intends to split the company from handsets? I simply do not know. He said he was open to partnerships, that's pretty far from saying he's going to jettison handsets.
The last piece of all this is BES. This should be the key function of the company going forward, device style of Blackberry could be programmed into any generic phone via BES, plus they have major scale in device management. This is where the future lies, plus licensing of QNX and BBM. The company probably has to fire 3000 to 4000 more people and hire someone with ties to IBM or Lenovo to get the job done. But Thorsten's days are numbered unless he decides to split up company.
The phones themselves just are not worth jack. They're not cool. No apps for people to masturbate away their time. Basically all BBRY has to do is program other companies phones for business use, put it into a Qwerty or a Swipe friendly format, and call it a day. Getting your phone programmed to do Blackberry things like Hub, or use QNX hold some value, so does getting the time stamps and these other ticky tack things working people need to do their jobs. Playbook no longer supported by management is a sign of things to come. The 70 million plus subscribers is worth less all the time. It should be majority sold to an outside company like Lenovo with Blackberry retaining a small piece. They just can't compete, designing batteries, and screens and cameras, it's not Blackberry.
Bottom Line Part 2: Get out of Phone Business and into Business Communications, and you're unlocking some huge value. Of course, management may be too stupid to execute.
As a Blackberry user and shareholder I will give my take on this company, although I regret in advance all the Rimmtard cracks, the jokers seem like the kind of people who fart on people's heads for fun, but at least I don't have to smell them personally.
Right, onto analysis, no doubt about it, BBRY has messed up way too much. They have all these golden geese, but can't catch the eggs on time, instead they get nailed with those Rimmtard jokes and they deserve them!. Take QNX. This is an amazing OS. It doesn't crash ever, it doesn't freeze up, it's such an improvement over any other technology I have used. Now I don't have an Iphone, so maybe that's really awesome, but the cost of a Playbook and now a Z10 is peanuts compared to Apple and they run way better than HTC phones or Kindle Tablets or Dell Windows workstations. But QNX is not advertised at all, nobody knows that it runs nuclear powers plants and cars, that you could eventually have a QNX device that could run your whole life. Instead we get these stupid MTVesque commercials with flying carpets. BBRY was going for buzz among young, cool people with no responsibility, and they blew it. Blackberry is not cool, it will never be cool. Totally mishandled. Instead of adapting Z10 and Q10 to core audience of Bold users, they lost all these key features people depend on to run their businesses, where's the key for this, where's my alert for that? Why isn't the time stamp correct anymore, why won't the damn thing work with Outlook. Obviously, management was in lalaland. There's no denying it, that Blackberry just doesn't have mass appeal in the US anymore, and it won't ever again. Now, it's unclear what QNX is worth, but it's worth something, it works really damn good.
Bottom line on Part 1: QNX has amazing potential. It could be worth a lot of money in the right hands.
There's no question a lot of money is going into these kids. They are low key compared to Paris Hilton and Kardashians, but these are low key times. Both Jenners are getting a lot of press. I would write them off if there were a competing duo of teen bands, but so what if the Jenners will be famous for being famous. Meantime, PacSun brand has staying power, 240,000 young people have hit the "like" button on Facebook since November. That's a lot of new likes for an unofficial web page.
