Around half of all gold mined today (49%) is made into jewelry, which remains the single largest use for gold. India is the world’s largest market for gold jewelry, representing about 822 tons of gold in 2010. Indian
women own about 19,841 tons of gold jewelry.
The United States Federal Reserve holds 7,385 tons of gold, about one third of the amount, Indian women have in toe rings. Does anybody else see this as a problem?
