It will be interesting to see how quickly WhatsApp continues to grow or decline after the acquisition. My guess is that Facebook will not change anything on a front end so that most users won't even know that their communications are are now owned by Facebook.
Why does this feel like the last internet bubble? What is the true value of Facebook or any of its acquisitions besides being tools for advertisers?
People could just switch overnight to Google+ and have the same social network experience (although less crowded and with fewer ads).
Why do you think that it will be another 5 years and not 5 months before next crash? The signs of unraveling are already upon us.
So, you agree that FB valuation is a SCAM that will eventually crash but we should all go along for a ride?
One hit five flops. Quantity does not trump quality, but having said that I thought the Lego movie was way overrated... and I don't know about the other five since I haven't seen them.
Companies like SONY are not valued by their impact on a society or their contributions. Their value is completely controlled by Wall Street power elites who can make or break ANY company by simply out-buying or out-selling retail investors with trillions of retirement "investments" that continue to support the twisted system they created.
Funny that you should refer to Apple and Facebook creations as the "real world". Wake up.
Facebook doesn't care about the revenue of other companies as long as they have many subscribers. They only care about bragging rights to the most "popular" social network on the planet which allows them to grow their ad business.
Many of those 450M users that aren't already on Facebook will now look for alternatives to WhatsApp. If you're not on Facebook already, then you probably never will.
Facebook has almost reached the point where they can only maintain their user growth through buyouts. Lucky for them they have also reached the $160+ billion capitalization which gives them some room to play. Since Facebook is all about MAUs they will be focusing on popular services with a large user base so that they can maintain their relevance as a social media / advertising platform. Look out for other acquisitions soon.
