Why does a company with no debt want to pile this amount of debt on its balance sheet to satisfy a few speculators/investors their fair share of distributions, which a buy back does not give to its shareholders directly?
After earning $9.5 billion, beating low estimates on revenues and earnings, authorizing a buyback, increasing the dividend and projecting a dismal April to June quarter Apple is up 4 cents, who made some money today on Apple.
Certainly a consideration.
Where is the sanity in investing?
This 50 billion dollar buyback over the next two years is a wasted opportunity of dollars sitting idly. If buybacks of the past 13 years are any indication then Apple shares will sit where they lie today. MSFT, CSCO, QCOM, XOM, buybacks have not propelled these stocks higher, and they all pay dividends.
