Bonyhard had the audacity to join STX after retiring from IBM. What ensued next was a cross between a Marx brothers comedy and James Bond flic.

Big Blue turned the lawyers on Bonyhard and STX. Numerous STX employees were dragged into depositions and tractor trailer loads of STX documents were subpoenaed by IBM. It even got on Sixty Minutes. The witch hunt went on for over a year and nothing was ever proved against STX or Bonyhard. During the course of this circus, an IBM employee visited a head process equipment supplier (CSC) that had supplied equipment to IBM and to Seagate. During his visit, a customer notebook from CSC happened to disappear. The IBM engineer returned the notebook to the supplier a few days later saying he had taken it in error, LOL!

Shortly thereafter IBM forced CSC to change the design of the tool STX had ordered. The responsible STX engineer, who reported to Bonyhard, learned of this and then promptly quit. The tool never worked correctly, so STX went to another process (Headway) which didn't work either. The STX engineer who quit eventually ended up at Read-Rite which purchased a tool from Veeco for the same process which STX "cloned" and now has over a half- dozen of these Veeco tools in production.

In the end, the STX and IBM lawyers made their money, Bonyhard was crushed and retired, and the STX engineer changed careers and by some accounts is now a multi-millionaire.

Even Hollywood, couldn't come up with a story like this

Just another memorable saga in the soap opera "As the Disk Turns".

Probably explains why Billy boy is a persona non-grata during the drive earnings calls.

For his experience as a banker, Luzco knows the stench of Goldman's research calls.
