If you subscribe to your trading account’s short list that number is much less. Short traders will tell you due to Margin borrowing rates the average short position is no more than a few days. Check it out with your trading account contact.
There are typically two times in a day when shorts close a position (buy back/cover) Early opening or late at close trading.

Looking Good for CLF. My experience has been a better than 3X iron ore % rise. We could see at least a 20% plus day for CLF. Be interesting how shorts (those left) will handle this pre-market uptick on the opening, since they can't cover toll opening bell. Also added more pre-market.
