Old news pal, this was published in "The Hill" last Wednesday. News already in the price. Google it if you don't believe me.
Not really big news - GILD even mentioned in their CC that the VA exhausted 1st half funds and that they were expecting an appropriation soon. Maybe you see 250M is sales from the VA next quarter. Helps but hardly a huge sum.
Interesting, I don't know if the VA is subscribing Harvoni or Solvaldi but each script in the bill is getting $60,558 per - draw your own conclusions now regarding how deep the discounts are on contracts to these countries. I would think GILD gave a pretty good discount considering the patient base and that they are an American company after all. Also, did anyone notice that you don't hear much anymore from those on Capitol Hill about the price of H and S. It could be that to get that price, the VA is buying scripts up front - why else would the article mention the amount of patients they will treat.
Hey, the 15B buyback was announced at the 4Q14 CC when the still had 3B left to use from a previous buyback plan. They didn't announce another 15 B buyback this past CC 2 days ago.
Yours is the more likely scenario - retail investors really got spooked Friday, bought more this morning at a price that I though I would never see again - it was a gift. Other biotechs have such a big PE, GILD is either in line with what its suppose to be or, and this is much more likely, it is undervalued. My IRA is all in on GILD, I feel safe.
"the value of the spinoff is deducted from the parent company's share price on the ex-date" - The value of the spinoff when ? At the open of trading for the spinoff. Informative post, thanks
To the ex divvy date and record date, normally not , depends how good earnings are - remember that the dividend is shaved off the share price - if the dividend is 1 dollar, the day the dividend is paid out the stock price is 1 dollar less. I have never heard of a spin off qualification date - you either own or not own shares the day it happens. Makes sense from a BX POV - why should they tell the public days or months ahead of the actual date
As you suggested and several websites have suggested and the charts have suggested and history has suggested. Just the nature of BX business has always had EPS stalling before earnings, I have been in and out of BX for 3 years, there is never a run up into earnings and there always has been a post earning stagnation to the EPS until what is discussed in the CC has been digested and examined - they are not like a pharma company where you can see how many scripts were sold week over week. Granted, BX is a good investment but your just throwing darts unless your privy to the day to day goings on. The only thing Joe Trader knows right now for certain is that there is a spin off of the BX advisory business occurring soon
I lived there for 2.5 years - arrogance best describes the population. Nothing will get cheaper, Gotta remember, these are a proud people ( ignorant and self important as well ). Wealth has stayed within families for generations, they are not going to give this up ( nor pay taxes on it ) - todays over seventies are children of WWII, they know poverty. I just cannot believe that they are demanding restructuring and less austerity " Here is what you EU need to do for us before we borrow and #$%$ away more of your money ". Only Greeks would #$%$ on the only countries able to get them out of this mess. BX owns a 10% stake in a management firm there, Apollo management - there could be an opportunity there considering the future projects they have but now, even the government doesn't have enough money to support a project that would put 5 to 10 thousand to work.
Greek default is desert for BX, buyout of Lamda developers would be sweet.
I have worked for Greeks - intelligent but also incompetent, they seem to have their best interests in mind rather than the whole, its the "whats in it for me" syndrome - Greece is going into the crapper and they are still arrogant. Change from the Drachma to the Euro had them spending like drinking sailors. It all comes home to roost - Greece will be up for sale soon at pennies on the dollar. As a Greek once told me, we invented modern civilization and love making - while my Italian friend mentioned that there is a reason why the Acropolis and Parthenon are called ruins and it took the Italians to understand that love making was between a man and a woman.
The sky is falling, martians are landing.
You would actually sell your position in the anticipation that its going to 107 while the ATH is 116 and momentum and the fundamentals have this stock for at least 120 - will close this Friday above 111.50 if not 112. And how can a pullback be in progress after only 2 days. If you are getting paid minimum wage, thats too much.
He had 612,500 shares he bought in the Q4 14 - depending on when he bought he may have made 5%
GILD has no need for activist investors - 612,500 shares won't get you a seat in the executive bathroom at GILD
They just bought back 3B during Q1 - that was leftover from their last buyout scheme. The next buyout scheme is to take place over 3 years. Sure, they are buying back now but not the entire sum they indicated over 3 years.
Not out of the question but could some people contract the disease while taking the meds ? How many people do you know that smoke while wearing the patch. How many people drink while going to AA. How many users will tell a doctor that they have been clean for a period of time after being diagnosed with Hep c and will continue to use. Folks, we do not live in Utopia.
The more this guy #$%$ about pricing and shames pharmas into discounting - the more his company makes .
He not doing this for philanthropic reasons. Also, he doesn't even differentiate about cures versus treatments. People like him will sooner or later prevent pharmas from discovery because it will no longer be a profitable venture for pharmas to create cures. If he kept his mouth shut GILD would have negotiated a price with Express Scripts to everyones advantage - now they have a target on their back. Real bad business decision on his part. Other companies have seen what he has done and will now start to bypass companies like Express Scripts - his industry is a middle man, thats it. They drive prices up just by their existence.
Look at CLDNs CFOs BIO - he has more M & A experience in his earlobe that GBS has on its entire staff ( 4 people ), whats weird is that according to the SEC they signed on for over 1.3M shares on 2/24/15 to make them a +5 % owner so the top message is wrong ( I think ) but they were seed venture capitol investors for 200M - there are some major players at 5 % ownership, could it be that as sort of a insider deal - CLDN is giving a gift to GBS for being there in the beginning ?
@ 54 % of CLDN stock is owned by Institutions and another 6 companies, as of 2/24/15 according to todays news ) own enough stock to claim + 5 % ownership. Any significance to these numbers. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't this basically means that out of the float (24M Shares, 31M Shares less 7 on the shelf ) only somewhere around 3.6M to 4.2M are available to the retail investor? Shares were gobbled up in the 4th Q 14 by institutions and +5 % owners, now another 5% owner buys in. If the trend continued into Q1 2015 - shares are really being gobbled up. Read the GBS website, they don't really impress me, I don't see any Home Runs on their scorecard and it seems that they are really outside of their comfort zone when looking at their other investments. If they bought over 13M shares at lets say for todays price ( certainly not the case ) that would be a 21M USD holding in the portfolio. It is a 125M ( I think AUD ) - this would be a 10% holding in 1 fund. That pretty sizable, isn't it ? I am long just 1500 shares on flyer but this intrigues me.
