    Holiday weekend too.

The volume here and in other lifeco's seemed to be around the release of this news:

This company sold shares to the public at $25.50. I did not purchase any, but my point is that the idiots running the company have created some very bad karma for shareholders who purchased at higher prices.

And, I don't need any lessons from your sarcastic mouth. The problem is not the shareholders, it's the management and board of this company. They don't know what the hell they are doing. If they had a clue, they would not have DESTROYED over a BILLION dollars of shareholder value.

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

Apparently, building book value means absolutely nothing. $454 is an amount that shareholders will never see. It is pure fantasy. For a shareholder, only a dividend is real.

NWLI in free-fall. Already back to June, 2005 levels. Your management and board still hard at work.

2000 shares traded today and off almost 2%.

That about sums up what the market thinks about the management and board at NWLI.

The stock is down 50% and no insider purchases.

Even the insiders think this stock is #$%$.

Also, lots of insider selling so they can pay the tax bill on all the free stock options they received.

Isn't that great? Insiders get free shares and the public shareholder gets whacked 50%.

    Sentiment: Strong Sell

  • dsouth7777 by dsouth7777 May 11, 2016 4:06 PM Flag

From the 52 week high of 269.

Your NWLI management and BOD are hard at work destroying shareholder value.

Now they want the shareholder to approve their incentive plan.

I hope people think long and hard before approving such generous gratuities those folks do not deserve.

You are entitled to your opinion and I to mine.

These people should be thrown out and replaced with others who will protect the interests of the public shareholders. They alone are responsible for the rotten performance of the shares and refuse to do anything but enrich themselves. It is shameful.

And, I could care less about MET, PRU, LNC, PFG, or MFC.

I'm sorry but the fools that run NWLI are playing a game with the public shareholders. They are not competent to manage shareholder value - they've produced a loss for the shareholder over a TEN YEAR period.

They have the power to change but they simply refuse to listen to what shareholder have to say. It is time for change at NWLI.

How many companies in their industry sell below 50% of book value? The answer is one, and we know who that is.

  • I wonder who the persistent seller is?

Surely can't blame them with the idiots in charge here.

But it's only shareholder value being lost, so who cares?

Any ideas on why book increased from $443 to $454?

Most other lifeco's had lackluster or bad first quarters, especially with the volatility in the markets.

  • dsouth7777 by dsouth7777 May 5, 2016 10:38 AM Flag

Look we all are not happy with the share price and the poor capital allocation. I don't mean to bash any of my fellow shareholders, I am just upset at the much discussed lack of engagement and change at NWLI. We can only hope that something will change for the better going forward, but I am not very optimistic at this point.

    F that.

The problem is not the shareholders, it's the management and BOD who are hoarding cash and refusing to do anything for the shareholders.

I think anyone who apologizes for the dismal performance - the stock is below where it was 10 YEARS ago - is as guilty as the idiots who run the company.

The track record stands for itself - 10 YEARS of losing shareholder money, yet no one is holding them accountable.

And people on this board think I should move on. Right, I should be accountable because of the hoarding despots at NWLI. Give me a freakin' break.

Ummmm well if you think it's so good, then why are the shares down well over 50% in just the last 6 months??

Wall St hates this company, and for good reason. They are driving the ship into the ditch.

    1. I did not say loss, but yes they do have impairments.
    2. A miss is a miss on Wall St. 1st quarter was a huge miss due to surprise DAC unlocking.
    3. It is not a good thing to further dilute the shareholders.
    4. They said there was no assurance that they could implement the reinsurance.
    5. Read the earnings press release and listen to the conference call. They will need borrow if sales continue at the current pace.
    6. Apparently, the market really could care less about book value.

Why must you argue with me? These people having controlling interest and refuse to listen or do anything for the public shareholder. All of this is being done on-purpose. I happen to think this is disturbing.

And, what good does a shareholder proposal do if all they need to do is drag the old man to a computer so he can click on NO?

OMG you can't be serious?? Or maybe you just have not done your research on AEL?

Here's a short synopsis of the last six months of this debacle:

    1. Over 8% of their portfolio is in energy, mining, and mineral companies. They have had downgrades on these securities which a) screws up the balance sheet and b) affects their risk-based capital or RBC.

    2. They have missed earnings estimates 3 straight quarters.

    3. They issued shares last August, diluting the shareholders. Also, there is a forward contract to allow them to issue further shares at $24.75. So Wall St. hedged the forwards with an equal or greater short position which caused some people to be concerned.

    4. They continue to exceed sales goal. Sounds great, right? But the fact is that they write very low margin business and they even stated on the latest conference call that they are having a hard time finding things to buy that meet their requirements. So they have held a larger percentage of cash, further hurting results.

    5. Since they keep increasing sales, that creates a need to keep up their RBC. Now they are at a point that they will have to execute the forward stock sale, which will only nets $135mm. They may need to raise additional capital to bolster RBC, further hurting earnings. Can you imagine borrowing at ~6% to write ~2% business???

    6. During the 1st quarter they evaluated their portfolio (credit downgrades, losses, etc) and did a DAC unlocking. This is done to keep their assumed portfolio returns in line with the balance sheet. Thus it was a direct hit to book value, totally surprising Wall St and causing a large loss for the quarter.

I could go on and on. They really need to sell the company or change management. If they continue the antics listed above, this company will no longer exist.

This issue is not whether I or anyone else hold the stock.

The issue is with the way the company is run. The fact is that the public shareholder is totally ignored and neglected. The management and BOD refuse to entertain any changes proposed by shareholders.

All of this translates to the ridiculously low valuation that the shares command.

I happen to find the whole situation disgusting.

You better do some more research. This stock is heading south. Management is destroying shareholder value by the day. Over $1.2 BILLION has been lost so far, but the insiders still get their salaries, bonuses and stock options. It is disgusting.
