    Cashback is not a loser.
He's been short from the high 30 and laughing at us all the way to the bank.
He is also correct in pointing out that the concept is silly.
By its own admission, Noodles introduced "Buff Bowls" which are healthy, highly profitable and don't contain a single noodle.

Stock buyback proves shares are undervalued

franz: I agree with you...and I am long NDLS.
In 2010 I bought IQNT (TNDM back then) at $20 and the stock slowly drifted lower.
They announced a $17 buyback and IQNT popped up to $17.
After the buyback ended, IQNT plunged to less than $2.
IQNT is back up to $17 now and has paid over $4 in dividends.
Thanks to management selling a bad investment and focusing on their core business.
...So, anyone wanting OUT of NDLS, selling at $18 might be a wise choice.
I think NDLS announced a buyback because some of their investors wanted out.

Visited Dundee and Arlington Heights Rd at 1:15.
Store was half full and people were eating outside.
Tried the Buff Bowl. Delicious, healthy...and $9.50 including tax.
As I left, more people were coming in.
Must be weather related because this place is dead in the winter.
    -----------
Had a bad experience at the Panda Express the day before.
The place is run by young kids, including the manager.
They ran out of my dish, asked me to step out of line, and then totally forgot about me.
That would never happen at Noodles because everything is made to order and they bring the food to you.
    ----
My daughter tried Shake Shack and loved it.

chrome: I love some of the food at Noodles and hate others.
Its hit and miss and its difficult to tell whether you'll like a particular dish from simply reading the menu.
I once tried a $10 special that offered two half portions of two new menu items.
I loved one and hated the other.
The manager came around and asked me what I thought, and I told her the truth.
She then replaced the half portion of the dish I didn't like with a full portion of my favorite dish.
I'll give her an A+ for effort. Problem was, I was on a diet and now I've just eaten more food than I could possibly digest.

Between higher healthcare costs and trend towards higher minimum wages,
All restaurant stocks will be under pressure.
Also, there's simply too many restaurants.
I think the whole group may have topped out as indicated by all the recent IPOs.

Its a sad day when shorts are buying NDLS and longs are selling.
My plan is to hold NDLS for at least 4 years.
Except for lack of customers, its a pretty good investment.
Over 400 locations, almost all company owned.
I like the food and I am hard pressed why this restaurant has not caught on.
I do think they have too many restaurants in too concentrated of an area, taking away some of its uniqueness.
I wouldn't average down. Its much easier averaging up.

    Alf_1986e: I once brought a friend using a 2 for 1 coupon to noodles.
He accidently ordered a spicy dish and had a violent reaction.
I have never used a 2 for 1 coupon since.

    NDLS or LOCO?

BWLD is the superior stock because its using a proven model (Hooters).
Which raises an interesting question. Why do I own NDLS and not BWLD or CMG.

I have seen on-line menu prices of other restaurants, only to visit the restaurant and see the actual prices were higher.
I don't see how publishing the menu price can help a restaurant.
If the price is too high, the consumer will not visit the restaurant.
If the price is too low, the consumer will be disappointed.

Arlington Heights was busy last night due to good weather.
People eating inside and out. This location was dead all winter.
Unlike CMG, NDLS has a dinner crowd.
Speaking of CMG, it took CMG 3 years to double their earnings.
NDLS takes less than 2 years.

Why would anyone buy this stock?

I thought the earnings report was good.
You have to look past the headlines.
NDLS took a 5M hit on closing 9 under performing locations.
This has been one of my complaints, that they weren't closing bad locations.
They will also be improving decor, starting this summer.
Hence the flat earnings this year.
All restaurants are taking a hit on better health care insurance this year.
As a group, most restaurant stocks are down.
With warmer weather, NDLS should be higher 6 months from now.
