how the Google bid comes about. There is a clearly a vacuum at the top of Twitter. So what's to keep Carl Icahn from taking a stake in Twitter and saying this one has to sell itself? I think he could actually make it happen.

  • Google is focusing big on the social media platform now as suggested by Eric Schmidt, Chairmen – Google. Eric did admit in an interview with Bloomberg that it was a mistake on Google’s part for not anticipating the rise of the social networking phenomenon. He also said that Google, which relies on its advertising model for 90% of its income, is making amends for ignoring the social networking industry’s influence over the advertising market on the internet in the coming future amending their key limiter which is the rate at which they innovate.

At this stage, it is difficult to say how things will be settled and in what shape in future, but one thing is certain; Google will have to act, and act fast. Facebook is slowing narrowing gap and has started eating into the online advertising market, once unanimously dominated by Google.

  • There is this nagging rumor of Google taking over Twitter. It certainly makes sense as Google’s top competitor is now clearly Facebook and Google Plus was a failure. Google could use (some would say needs) a social media presence. It’s on the edges of that realm with Google Photos – a potential competitor to Facebook’s Instagram and that combined with Twitter does sound rather tasty.

In an interview on Business News Network I stated that while I think the combination makes a lot of sense, I don’t think Google will act until we (and it) know where Twitter is headed. Google has the cash, it can wait to see if Twitter is really making progress at creating a compelling and differentiated advertising platform. If so, Twitter will be more expensive, but worth much more to Google. If not, Twitter will be much less expensive to Google. I think it may be worth Google’s wait, but who knows, maybe Google acts fast.

For now the bullish thesis for Google must be this: An expansive rise in research & development along with a suddenly dominating lead in mobile OS must bring about the next evolutionary if not revolutionary change from Google. That change must at the very least expand upon its current core business of advertising and better yet, expand into a new arena, or even go so far as to shake technology at its core. Twitter is an after thought until… it becomes the only thought. And it may happen.

Twitter Inc. (TWTR) So is it #Skitter? Or #Winner? Twitter could sure use some viral cheerleading, as the stock is 14 percent lower than on its Nov. 8, 2013, debut. (It trades now at about $36.) But at least one twitterphile is John O’Donnell, chief knowledge officer of the Online Trading Academy, based in Irvine, California: “I [pick] Twitter to rebound. It’s been price-anemic since a big drop in April, but it has the potential of being an acquisition target from the likes of Facebook, Google or even Alibaba,” he says. “That could be the iron boost they need to bounce back.”

short interest statistics showed that 82% of the float is currently being shorted. With 4,573,000 shares short GEVO has the potential for a large short squeeze.

  • TOTAL, Sir Richard Branson (Virgin), NASA, US Navy, Alaska airlines, Praj, Gulf , Coca-Cola (for non fuel applications), and many others (as far as I know Lufthansa is testing GEVO jet fuel as well) believe that GEVO renewable isobutanol will eventually replace fossil fuel.
The fossil fuel market is enormous (many USD trillions annually).
What I like of Gevo business plan is that isobutanol production can be ramped up quickly converting ethanol plants at little cost through licencing (this is something the SA contributor seems to ignore but it is one of the main points of GEVO strategy as the Praj deal testifies), distributed quickly at no additional cost (using existing distribution channels) and being a 'drop in fuel' used in engines without modifying them.
If we add a strong IP, many other industrial applications, unit cost reductions, low emission regulations, etc GEVO has good chances of medium to long term success. Breakthrough technologies need time to introduce, but with the expected approval of GEVO jet fuel in a few months, I think GEVO is on the verge of widespread adoption by commercial airlines and this will be just the beginning ( jet fuel is a 200B USD market, a small fraction of total fossil fuel market). Where price will go in the next few days (probably down as manipulated by HF after a big spike) is irrelevant and will not affect GEVO success. In fact the spike was good as it gave the chance to many to learn about GEVO. After working many years as finance senior manager in oil, I admit I had barely heard of GEVO before last Thursday, but I have invested now and betting this will be a $100B market cap company in 5 years time
