    Though I disagree about the viability of solar energy by today's technology, you can store (electrical) energy. It is called a battery, how do you think you start your car every day? Run your laptop, iPad, or cell phone? Plus there are other energy storage means (including capacitors, flow batteries, pumped hydro storage--all of which are in use today).
    Problem with solar generated power is the very low efficiency and the high cost of materials (and negative environmental impact of processing those materials), as well as the limited places having sufficient cloudless sunlight to generate. And the point of disposal of used batteries is another issue, as pointed out above.
