Not going to work. If the franchisee can not get a good return. They could not when they actually made their own doughnuts. I really do not think they can compete with the Asian owned and operated units. Better product made fresh on premises at a lower price with lots of convenient locations.Very low rents. This will not work out so well. Look at the Bresslers' ice cream model in California. Weak. same company . Look where the consumer is less discriminating like Arizona it will work fine but if you are counting on big gains from California forget it. The franchor will do ok initially but it falls apart when the shop owner goes toes up. The Koreans own the dry cleaner business as well. This will not work in California. Georgia ? Sure. Northeast ? You bet.

  • This is where the margin is. More income and still low interest rates. Going to get very green for all the Auto Makers.

  • The bottom has blown wide open. The Saudi's have decided to kill the frackers, Russia, and everyone else. Going to be great for the economy other than oil stock investors. I will look for a bottom. The big short opportunity won but it is doubtful new shorts will get much more. Good call for the shorts.

If what you predict is correct I agree with your outlook but this market is not underserved and there really is not much of a chance that the single business economics will be good enough for a franchise operator to risk over 300K to make a 40k salary. High rents. High wages, and product that is manufactured rather than made fresh on site. Big difference to Californian physical and mental outlook about what is a good product. A blue collar worker out here has a sense of refinement that certainly does not exist in the South. I have lived there and I had 5000 employees that were blue collar. Great hard working people but the local biscuit shop beat any doughnut operator .I think the DNKN can compete with SBUX as they are different customers. There just isn't a way to make enough money doing it for the operator.

I intend to buy back and swing trade again after OPEC declares. Russia needs higher prices more than we do. I see SA pounding the Russians as much as they are trying to hurt USA. We are very close to independent and we do not export. We can sustain any price war. Will not be good for oil stocks short term for sure if they do not cut production but it will sustain our economic growth and consumer product spending. We win long term.SA is not stupid but they believe Obama Administration is and they may be correct about that. We have a ton of employees in the Energy department and no policy.Long term we go back north of 10. So any buys at the lows will be profitable. I made 12% on a less than 15 day time frame last trade. Looking to reload. I think I will make a lot of money during this uncertain time frame.I hope we go to 4 so long as it is quick.. Probably will not though as wee will get enough of a cut to keep prices above 70 bbl.

That would be great by me. Gas inventories are dropping. I look for a turnaround here. They are not frackers.

shorts make money, longs make money and pigs get slaughtered. Old bromide and so very true. I am more comfortable buying here at this level 2.70 than selling.

  • The market cap is only around $225 and is very profitable. Opec changes their tune and we fly or someone else will buy. Strong story, good management, nice mix of product and low cost structure with a great ROI. I am nibbling here at these levels and expect a big gain without $90 oil. Very well positioned. Could pop in one day enough to scare the poop out of the short side. It will begin with a gap up. easily can return to the $6 range. Caution this is not for rookies but for professional bottom fishers. Not everyone can trade these correctly but if you manage it you will make a very nice return on this one stock.

Why Sliding down ..when market is up?

The planned re-entry for California will be far more difficult than they anticipated. California has a very strong independent doughnut shop ownership with a lot of good , hard working immigrant families managing their locations very, very well. They all make fresh bakery products and doughnuts on their premises through out the day. They sell at extremely strong retail prices. The locations are not as fancy as a new DNKN outlet but their rents are extremely low. Couple this rent advantage with higher gross margins as they make from scratch with superior ingredients what is shipped in frozen to the DNKN outlets. DNKN had 15 locations in California that closed due to no franchise growth based on these market dynamics. Winchell has a fair number of locations and they do just OK but they have the chain disciplines that you would expect from a franchise company and their start up investment is lower. No franchisee wants to pay high fees associated with a Brand that has previously failed. bad case history aside. Starbucks, Peet's Coffee and Coffee bean have the very best real estate locked up
making it very expensive for a new comer to operate. Krispy Kreme entered the market and they are still here as well with a far different operating strategy but they can not get enough Brand penetration due to these dynamics either. So in summary going up against strong competition in a very strong high priced operating market where no one really cares or needs another Doughnut or Coffee shop. We are not under served in these markets.Check it out you can easily google enough information to check my thesis..

    good luck though.

What kind of position did he take? Einhorn is a welcome addition here. We have had one false start and frankly the numbers are improving very nicely but I don't think he has a big position. I have not seen it yet.

Your question has been asked several times and answered an equal number of times. What you should be focused on as a short seller is how smart is it to trade on a rumor you have been promoting ? Particularly when there is no agreement that exists anywhere but in your mind that such agreement was ever crafted. You would supply a source for this non existent agreement perhaps ? I thought so. No chance. Maybe you should be focusing on the interview with AIG's number 1 # shareholder Berkowitz. It was televised yesterday. He rarely does interviews but this one was a big plus in determining the future value of AIG. There is no downside to the shares due to this trial. In fact as soon as the trial concludes and a decision is rendered the only effect will be new buyers. My modest target of $65 is much lower than Bruce called at 75-100. Pay me now if you would like.

You are not very smart an additionally your personal aggressiveness has no place in intelligent dialogue over a company or stock price. This is only one reason you will never be as good a trader as you could be. I am a better trader than you. I am not bragging though as it can be easily determined you are not a factor here. good luck. You will require it. Target $45

Excellent posts on this thread. Thanks. I have made 12% on this run. I am selling. Why ? Uncertainty of OPEC not acting in their own short term best interest. I will buy again when the dust settles. In the meantime this has turned from an investment to a trade only stock for me until we see some changes.Money is money though.
