Wrong board--this is the UPS board. Why don't you post this on the FDX board?
Not to defend FDX but are they breaking any laws by doing this? If they are following all the laws and this is the result, do you blame FDX or the laws? As a shareholder, I want UPS to be maximizing by ROI and I hope their accountants are looking at every law and every legal tax exception to pay the lowest taxes possible and maximize ROI to the shareholders. If the laws upset you, take it up with your elected officials. FDX, and many other firms, are simply following the laws that our elected officials have created.
Way to think it through NYC politicians. Cancel contracts with UPS means less packages for UPS which means more unemployed workers. Brilliant strategy. Better idea - let UPS and the Teamsters work through the existing agreement in place and let business operate. Parking tickets and city contracts have nothing to do with the core of the issue. 250 union employees violated the agreement and were warned of the consequences. This is the 2nd time a walkout has occurred with this local. Wonder why the national Teamster leadership has not said anything? Because they know the local was wrong and violated the contract.
Violating the terms of a contract is silly? What happens in a non-union environment if you walk off the job for 2 hours?
As I said, the master passed by a majority of those who voted. Many did not vote and if they are unhappy with the results, they only have themselves to blame. You are saying that the employees that have been there the longest did not vote? Again, they have only themselves to blame. As far as I am concerned, those that do not vote do not have any right to complain.
You mean the contract that was ratified by majority vote of voting Teamsters? Evidently it's only the minority that hate the contract, otherwise it would not have passsed.
So now that the Boy Scouts have changed their polices and are allowing homosexual youths to join, what does that change for you?
More than 60% of the Boy Scouts 1,400-member national council voted at an annual meeting in Grapevine, Texas, for the change.
Will you no longer support the Boy Scouts?
Get some new parts for your head...
The Boy Scouts announced last month that the organization would consider changing the policy, a sharp reversal of its previous support for excluding openly gay members and scout leaders.
What will you do when the policy changes?
When your primary competitor has the same exact base rates and has the same exact rate increase, does it really matter? That's the benefit of a duopoly.
Looks like it will be a very busy, record setting, peak season...
UPS is forecasting 9.8% more holiday shipments to be delivered this year.
In the month leading up to Christmas, UPS expects to deliver a record 527 million packages, surpassing last year's record of 480 million. The company predicts its busiest day of the year will be Dec. 20, when an estimated 28 million packages will be delivered--the equivalent of more than 300 packages delivered every second of the day. On an average day, UPS delivers 15.8 million packages.
UPS's peak air day is projected to top 6.5 million deliveries compared to normal daily air volume of 3 million packages. UPS also said it will fly more than 400 additional flight segments per day to ensure on-time delivery of holiday gifts across the world.
How much disruption and delays did this really cause? Were there any service failures due to this event?
That's a good one. They could not afford the much smaller TNT so how could they afford the MUCH larger DHL. Face it, Fedex is locked out of Europe and is a bit player there. UPS now has 17% market share in Europe compared to Fedex share of 3% - 4%.
If 71 package handlers at the FedEx Ground warehouse in Brockton, Massachusetts, win the union election scheduled for August 3, it will be the first time ever for package handlers at the giant non-union shipper. They’re facing a fierce anti-union campaign.
A top issue is poverty wages; all the workers are part-time, starting at $10.50 an hour with a maximum wage of $14.50 after four years. “Since there’s no seniority,” said one worker, “personal friends of managers typically get the full-time jobs or promotions.”
He said workers have to load packages that include 150-pound engine blocks, working in trailers that go down to 2 degrees in the winter and 115 in the summer.
Brockton workers looking to unionize contacted Teamsters Local 653 and signed up 75 percent of their co-workers. They kept the union drive hidden from management for months.
UPS now is the exclusive global package, shipping and logistics sponsor of Live Nation Entertainment and select Live Nation Entertainment tours and venues.
"Pretty sad when a UPS BOD member can get better rates at Fedex."
Yes, just like John A. Edwardson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CDW Corporation that sits on the Fedex board---CDW ships via UPS.
It's not always about the lowest rate.
UPS has pledged $1 million in aid though The UPS Foundation to Japan.
The funds will be used for in-kind transportation of emergency supplies, trained humanitarian logistics personnel, and financial support. UPS is working with relief agency partners, including the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, to determine their needs.
Since you previously stated you had the shipment declared for the full value and paid the extra amount for coverage, you got reimbursed for the lost shipment, correct? Stuff happens in life but since you covered yourself for this shipment, the situation was resolved.
