The recent study from Italy used only 1gm which I believe insufficient to evoke a response from the body. Once you reach a threshold the body will start using the fish oil instead of producing its own triglycerides.

"highest quality" ... which one(s)? I just googled and You'll find that mercury is just one of the major contaminants regularly found in seafood; exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxin, DDT and other organochlorine pesticides are just as alarming.

Over the counter fish oils are not regulated which means the product can contain mercury and other toxins. As you know, the FDA checks the manufacturer of all drugs and their plant facilities for purity.
Insurance companies pay for a large amount of the cost (ave 80-90%) people's drugs.
Now which would you do ..... purchase over the counter Omega 3 (100% paid by you) which has unknown qualities or get an Rx for Vescepa (no impurities) and have the insurance company pay for most of the cost?
Now we all know that there are other advantages of taking that Rx so WHY would you not ask your doctor for that Rx??? Your doctor can prescribe it for you "off label".
