The chart is starting out bad for the shorts today: we've got a nice move back above the 50 and 20 day moving averages as well as the RSI climbing back above 50. If it holds throughout the day and close, some shorts will be throwing in the towel.
At this point in Omnivision's existence, there are many more potential upside catalysts than downside catalysts over the next year: rapidly growing markets outside of mobile phone like automobile, security, robots, drones and medical technology, potential to re-take Apple slots, a dominant position in the Chinese mobile industry which is seeing a temporary inventory correction that will soon go away, the potential to easily blow out earnings going forward by selling some of the now unlocked WLCSP shares and finally, the interest from a major Chinese company in acquiring them.
In the one year ago Jan. '14 qtr, OVTI realized an extra $0.28 eps related to WLCSP transactions, nearly doubling earnings expectations. OVTI's remaining shares in WLCSP IPO were locked up until this February. At today's WLCSP prices, OVTI has another whopping $4.08 in unrealized earnings per share from a potential sales of WLCSP stock according to my calculations. I think there is a strong possibility that OVTI will book some gains on a small portion of WLCSP this quarter after yesterday's call, and they will massively beat the earnings guide on next quarter's report. I wouldn't want to be short this company with the massive unrealized gain on WLCSP sitting out there. JMO.
I added to my position some yesterday before the earnings announcement. I think patience with this stock will eventually be rewarded with another strong leg up.
The one year WLCSP lockup period expired earlier this month. It is impressive that Wafer has continued to hold such high levels. I plugged the current Wafer stock price in to my old Wafer-OVTI spreadsheet to add in the tangible book value from Wafer, and figured OVTI has a $21.95 adjusted tangible book value. At today's stock price, OVTI is selling at 1.2 times this adjusted tangible book value according to my calculations, which is pretty cheap. Do your own calculations.
