Will sirevil come to the rescue and spend his own money or will he "expense" it? Dow has assets and people in Greece-how will they be paid...euro? USD? Feta? I sure Dow has "expert" management on the ground in Athens..heh?
Nonsense. BHP raises incremental production, its already heavily invested in the assets. So it makes sense to run at higher rates to lower unit costs. The price of ore is set by the marginal producers. Ofcourse if demand rises, the marginal producers will be able to stay in business but prices should move higher - we see that in oil now. The Saudis are pumping even more, yet oil rebounded from mid $40's to $60's....while higher cost producers backed off. BHP should continue its strategy, same as Rio and VALE. Let Fortescue and others go under. The market will then be more efficient and prices recover. I applaud BHP management for following true commodity fundamentals.
Why should BHP cut production and lose market share? Let other, high cost producers drop out...
Whats the problem in killing other miners? BHP CEO is to grow BHP, not protect competitors.
Apparently the judges didnt read about the SEC investigation and expense claim issues...or lawsuits against wrongful dismissal. Just proves how morally bankrupt society is these days when awards get handed out to undesirables.
Not "old news", likely more to be uncovered once some real digging gets underway. Doubt it stops at CEO only...there is a culture there at exec level. Board needs a clean out and then go after execs who have been appointed by sirevil.
Last time I looked it wasnt Kullman facing an SEC investigation. At least she pays for her own vacations. Dow looks like a personality cult organization.
Lets see how this unfolds. Hopefully the SEC is talking to the IRS and other agencies too. And they need to investigate the charity he set up. Dow Board should ask him to step down during this investigation. If he is found to have abused his position, Dow should claw back the hundreds of millions he got in stock and other compensation. And finally, all the cronies he appointed should be booted out with him.
Anyone following this stock? Seems this message board is a ghost town. Anyone care to share a word about stock price direction? Low oil prices have sucked the wind out of methanex sails.
If an expense rorting scandal didnt get the Board riled up enough to show him the exit-what will? They all got re-elected at the AGM. Even Jackie Barton, who has been on the Board since my days in pampers.
To be fair...the price fixing and anti-competitive behaviour preceded Liveris. BUT some of those named in the case went on to have great careers in Dow. Says something about the culture.
Maybe its Dow themselves buying back stock to prop up the price. Loeb is waiting to drop the axe.
Cramer cant see through Liveris smoke and mirrors.
While Kullman fought off the snakes, Liveris caved in. No doubt he doesnt think his performance stacks up compared to Kullman. Loeb will clean out Dow.
He is a gift that keeps giving. Just like Romney and Palin and McCain - sore losers who cant keep their mouths shut or show respect. Only Paul Ryan has moved on. I dont like him, but at least he accepted the fact he got trounced and that Romney is a big dope. W destroyed whatever credibility the US had. Most recent Gallup polls show Obama has restored faith in America amongst our allies and at home. The GOP are traitors. Boehner loves Israel more than America. Rubio and Cruz are living in the 1950's - afraid to engage cuba. why? Is there something about their families that want to hide? Just why did they leave Cuba anyway? Were they part of the tens of thousands of criminals, drug dealers and other undesirables that Castro kicked out? We need special prosecutors to investigate them both.
I dont believe we should sit back and accept discrimination and rely on "market forces". The GOP wants to deregulate everything and allow the market to regulate itself by rewarding the "best operators". So if businesses in Alabama decide to not employ blacks, and local customers (white) are supportive, does the Government sit back? Or airlines who skimp on maintenance-do we wait for their planes to fall out of the sky before the Government steps in? Or misrepresentation by banks and finance companies?
Bakers are there to run a business and serve customers - if they decide to not serve some customers, then landlords, banks, delivery companies, utilities, communications providers have the same rights to cut them off.
Its always been about massaging numbers and constant re-structuring, shifting businesses and customers between new market segments to back up management claims. Loeb is not blind, he will go after Liveris even more. As for Buffet, he rescued Dow so i dont begrudge him milking Dow now. Liveris would have sold Dow to the Arabs or Russians otherwise.
