Mexico's mobile broadband connections up 44% y-o-y in Q1
Mexico reached 17.4 million mobile broadband connections by the end of the first quarter of the year, an increase of 44 percent year-on-year, according to a study by telecoms consultancy firm The Competitive Intelligence Unit (CIU). During the first quarter, revenues from mobile data reached MXN 19.8 billion, up 7 percent compared to the year-ago period. Mobile data accounted for one third of mobile operator's overall revenues during the quarter.
Telcel earned MXN 15 billion from mobile broadband services during Q1, or 77 percent of the total market share, followed by Nextel (10%), Movistar (8%) and Iusacell (5%).
