from my local health clinic in California-
... experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issue a flu vaccine by “trying to gamble on what they think will be the most prevalent (influenza strains) based on the previous year.” This year they appear to have gambled wrong, as only about a third of reported cases of influenza in the United States are covered by the current vaccine, which guards against three strains: A-Texas (also known as H3N2), B-Massachusetts, and A-California (also known as H1N1).
But according to health officials, only 32.5 percent of reported flu cases so far this year have involved one of those strains. The remaining two-thirds were other strains not covered by the vaccine."
Will this become a large Novavax advantage - being able to wait later to anticipate more accurately the strains needed to make a more effective vaccine
