from my local health clinic in California-
... experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issue a flu vaccine by “trying to gamble on what they think will be the most prevalent (influenza strains) based on the previous year.” This year they appear to have gambled wrong, as only about a third of reported cases of influenza in the United States are covered by the current vaccine, which guards against three strains: A-Texas (also known as H3N2), B-Massachusetts, and A-California (also known as H1N1).
But according to health officials, only 32.5 percent of reported flu cases so far this year have involved one of those strains. The remaining two-thirds were other strains not covered by the vaccine."
Will this become a large Novavax advantage - being able to wait later to anticipate more accurately the strains needed to make a more effective vaccine

"By leveraging Janssen's ability to fully integrate and strategically align global oncology development and commercialization, we expect this collaboration to expand the development of imetelstat across a range of hematologic malignancies and potentially increase the speed with which imetelstat can be made available to patients with these serious, life-threatening diseases," said Dr. John Scarlett, Geron's President and Chief Executive Officer.
Under the deal, J&J's unit Janssen Biotech Inc, will be responsible for the development, regulatory approval and sales of the cancer compound, imetelstat, worldwide. Geron will receive royalties on net sales.

  • FuelCell Energy, participated in a dedication event to showcase the fuel cell power plant installation at a wastewater treatment facility in Wyoming that utilizes renewable biogas as a fuel source to power a nearby Microsoft datacenter and supply heat to the facility's wastewater treatment process. The event was hosted by Microsoft, FuelCell Energy and a variety of participating Wyoming-based organizations and held at the Dry Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dignitaries included Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, who praised the power plant's zero carbon footprint and the innovation of locating the datacenter near a renewable fuel source that the fuel cell cleanly converts to power.
