  • Can the Rally in JA Solar (JASO) Shares Continue?

    By Zacks Equity Research

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (JASO) has been on the move lately as the stock has risen by 9.7% in the past four weeks, and it is currently trading well above its 20-Day SMA. This is a pretty solid move higher, but the question that has to be on investors’ minds right now is; can this trend continue?

While there can be no telling for sure, it is certainly encouraging that earnings estimates have risen in the past few weeks on the company, suggesting that sentiment on JASO is moving in the right direction. In fact, the stock currently has a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), suggesting that the recent run could certainly continue for this in-focus company.

  • TASER Books More Than 3,300 New Stun Gun Sales in Q2

By Rich Smith | More Articles
    June 17, 2014 | Comments (0)

In its latest update on stun gun sales, TASER International (NASDAQ: TASR ) reported Tuesday that it has booked new orders for thousands of its eponymous stun guns. These orders were both received in and are expected to ship in (and be recorded as revenues in) the current second fiscal quarter of 2014. Specifically, TASER has sold:
•296 TASER X2 Smart Weapons to the Fort Worth Police Department in Texas
•259 X2s, plus TASER Cam HD recorders, to the Illinois State Police Academy
•252 X2s to an unidentified international customer
•183 upgraded X2s to the Houston Police Department in Texas
•104 upgraded X2s to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation
•94 X2s to the Cobb County Police Department in Georgia, also as an upgrade
•65 X2s to the Parker Police Department in Colorado
•50 X2s, plus TASER Cam HD recorders, to the Miami Springs Police Department in Florida.

    Additionally, TASER reported sales of:
•883 X26P model TASERs to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department
•507 X26Ps, and 25 TASER Cam HD recorders, to the Iowa State Patrol
•225 X26Ps to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department in Texas
•180 X26Ps to the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department in Ohio
•111 X26Ps to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department in Florida
•100 X26Ps to Harris County Constable Precinct 4 in Texas.

That's a lot of guns, but it's not all TASER is reporting. Additional sales of various TASER weapon models -- and based on the company's past reporting practices, presumably orders of less than 20 units each -- and/or sales of TASER CAM HD recorders and/or subscriptions to the company's TASER Assurance warranty and upgrades plan were booked to law enforcement customers in: Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, SC

Trina Solar's Upcoming Projects in China

Besides the project mentioned above, Trina Solar is presently involved in other solar projects in China. The company started construction of the second phase of a 100 megawatt (“MW’) solar power plant in Wuwei (after completing the 50 MW phase one in 2013). The second phase is expected to be connected to the grid in the second half of 2014.

Trina Solar will also work on a 90 MW solar power plant in Toksun, Turpan Prefecture in Xinjiang.

The Chinese government has set a target of 8GW of DG solar project installations in 2014 to meet the increasing demand for clean energy. Trina Solar and other domestic solar operators are expected to gain from the increasing uptake of solar power in China.

The company is also planning to increase its solar product production capacity this year, given the bullish market trends.

  • Busting The Myth About Chinese Solar Panels

Jun. 17, 2014 1:58 PM ET | About: SunPower Corporation (SPWR), Includes: CSUN, FSLR, HSOL, JASO, JKS, SHCAY, SOL, STC, TSL, YGE

Disclosure: The author has no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. (More...)

•The general notion is that Chinese solar panels are lower quality. A comparison of 12 companies reveals other wise.
•Multiple R&D initiatives in the Chinese industry will lead to further efficiency increases and cost reductions.
•The upcoming CapEx up-cycle in the solar industry could result in substantial cost improvements given the newer equipment tools available today.

The myth that the title refers to is the general notion that if it's Chinese, it's lower quality. Although that notion might, in the past, have turned out to be accurate in many cases, the Chinese solar industry now produces solar panels that are of a quality that is very comparable to those produced by Western companies.

  • Solar Cell Efficiency Matters

Jun. 10, 2014 11:50 AM ET | Includes: CSIQ, CSUN, JASO, JKS, SPWR, TAN, TSL, YGE

Disclosure: The author is long TSL, CSUN. (More...)

•The solar cell is the key component in the whole solar energy system.
•Manufacturers with high-efficiency solar cells should win the competition.
•An absolute one percentage increase of cell efficiency could manage up to 30% cost savings for the whole PV system installation.
•Manufacturers have been expending a lot of effort for new cell efficiency improvement technology and commercialization though it may still take time.

Solar cell efficiency enhancement is another one of the key metrics for solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers, other than PV manufacturing capacity expansion which is the main task on most PV makers' schedule this year. Solar cell efficiency is, no doubt, the key differentiator for a PV manufacturer to win in the competition in terms of product superiority and cost effectiveness. This article will only talk about the crystalline silicon (c-Si) cell, which takes around 85% share of solar application at present."
