Hard to believe they had a positive thing to say about PWE.

    1. Penn West Petroleum

If you’re looking for an unloved company, Penn West Petroleum (TSX: PWT)(NYSE: PWE) is a great place to start. Its share price has seen a steady decline for years, finally culminating with a dividend cut in 2013. Currently, its shares trade for $9.37, which isn’t far above the all-time low.

One of the company’s main problems was management. It constantly overpromised and underdelivered. The board realized it had a problem, so it cleaned house and hired a new group of respected individuals with decades of experience. So far, it seems to be working.

Cutting the dividend was an unpopular move, but it was needed since the company wasn’t earning enough to cover it. Now the company easily makes enough to cover its new 5.9% dividend and is in the midst of selling non-core assets in an attempt to shore up its balance sheet. The debt level of $2.2 billion is a little high, but has improved from $2.9 billion over the last year.

Once the new group of management proves its worth, look for shares to start steadily improving. They could easily double over three or four years.

Obama will not approve it. If the republicans get control of both houses in November them maybe it can go through. Didn't you see Obama's big Global Warming speech a few days ago. He did it to appease his leftist wacko environmental buddies. If you don't support global warming then he thinks you are a buffoon. Don't you know you should bow down and pay him homage. I feel for the United Socialist States as that is what they have become under his leadership (or lack of). IMHO so don't send the CIA after me and I am already being audited again by the IRS. Better watch out for a drone with my name on it as he is willing to target Americans.

I read this from a article today from the Motley Fool on how to supercharge your investments.

    Penn West

Perhaps the cheapest large cap on the TSX is Penn West Petroleum (TSX: PWT)(NYSE: PWE), which trades at a 32% discount to its book value. The company has suffered from all sorts of issues in the past, including disappointing results and a management team that constantly overpromised and underdelivered. This weakness all culminated with a dividend cut of nearly 50% last summer.

The company has been taking steps to recover from its recent missteps. It brought in an entirely new management team, which has been selling off assets and using the cash to pay down debt. Cash flow is easily enough to pay the new dividend, which currently yields 5.3%. And the company has done a nice job reining in its capital budget, savings that will fall straight to the bottom line.

Like the other three companies mentioned, Penn West is poised to significantly outperform, but investors must be patient. Often, beaten-up companies trading at a discount to book value will take years to recover. Still, the results are worth the wait.

They have rated PWE as a sell and really trash the company despite the efforts to turn things around. Must be trying to shake out some stock and drive the price down.

They actually had a positive article about Penn West. Wonder why?
