FYI - Brian Kelley, the CEO of GMCR, was interviewed about his company's deal with KO (his first interview since the deal was announced). In the interview he complimented SODA as the leader in the space and declined to give the details of the deal. When the interviewer sought to confirm that the product would be introduced in 2015, Kelley said "our fiscal 2015," which is October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015. When asked if GMCR had a working machine Kelley answered that the process was to build a proto-type and then make improvements to the proto-type, and that GMCR was making improvements to an existing proto-type. When asked if GMCR would offer pods from PEP, he acknowledge that KO had "first-mover advantagess" but that their machine would be a multi-brand player.

My take away from the interview is that GMCR will not have its home-carbonation machine ready for the 2014 holidays. If they are still in the process of developing the proto-type in mid-March, I don't think there is any chance that they will have the machines on the shelves in advance of Thanksgiving, the kick-off of the holiday season. I think Kelley's mentioning "fiscal 2015" was an attempt to distract investors from the reality that SODA will have more than a year and another holiday season under its belt before GMCR makes a single sale of its machine. I also think Kelley's acknowledging that KO has first-mover advantages while refusing to say that PEP will have access to the GMCR platform sends the clear message that PEP will not have access to the platform for a few years, if ever.

I think this all bolsters the argument that if PEP wants into the home-carbonation channel, they'll need to partner with SODA, the only player in the space that has the ability to compete with GMCR/KO.

Just read in Schaeffer's Trading Floor Blog that option traders have bought to open twice as many calls as puts during the past two weeks, resulting in a 10-day call/put volume ratio of 2.05. This ratio is in the 65th percentile of its annual range, indicating the current demand for calls over puts is higher than usual.

For those who have been wondering why the lunatic anti-semite is only short that is still on the board talking SODA down, it may be because the rapacious shorts have covered their positions and are now buying call options. This thesis would may also explain why SODA is up over 1% on a day when the Dow, S&P, and the NASDAQ are all down. If the shorts want to ride SODA down again they need for it to come back up again.

BTW, I discovered that Ucbearcat/Aqualung is actually a member of Mossad, and his mission is to discredit the Palestinian (and Palestinian I mean expelled Jordanians) movement by making himself look like a deranged imbecile. Shalom Aquacat. GLTA.

Aqualung/Ucbearcat/Dave/et al - You claim that your ahistorical and counter-factual rants are not about hate, but if that 's true, why don't you also denounce the non-Israeli companies that the BDS Movement claims do business in the "occupied" territories?

According to the Christian Science Monitor, a publication respected by both ends of the political spectrum in the US and around the world, the Philadelphia-based BDS Movement has call for a boycott of the following companies:

    - Proctor & Gamble

    - Volvo

    - Intel

    Hewlett-Packard

    - Motorola

    - McDonald's

    - Victoria's Secret

    - There is a dispute within the BDS movement as to whether Starbucks should be the subject of a boycott.

Why have you never denounced any of these companies in the same way that the BDS movement has? And why haven't you denounced Apple, Microsoft, and Skype for selling products that contain or use Israeli-developed technology? Could it be that your animosity towards SODA stems from your flagrant antisemiticism, and has nothing with your feigned concern for justice?

That last question is, of course, rhetorical, as you have often describe your personal hatred of Israel and the Jewish people (your mentioning your thirty years of prejudice comes to mind). Your failure to denounce any other company for doing exactly what SODA is doing is irrefutable proof that you are an antisemitic hatemonger. Stop your ridiculous denials of your hatred and own it. Here endeth the lesson. GLTA.

You're abslutely right Techgeek. UCBearcat/Aqualung doesn't know it, but every time he preaches his false and hateful rants against SODA he re-enforces the universally held opinion that he is completely irrational. It would be one thing if he were just spreading lies in support of a short position, but he actually believes his own venomous propaganda. He who dines on his own bile nourishes only his own insanity. GLTA.

The PEP CEO says the company is "considering all options." The fact is that there are only two options: SODA (an existing option) and GMCR (a prospective option). The CEO points out that there is only one working product, which is a not-so-veiled reference to SODA being the only legitimate player in the home-carbonation space. Implicit in her saying that PEP is condering all options is the assumption that both the SODA and GMCR options are available to PEP. But will KO allow PEP to free-ride on its $1.25 billion investment in GMCR? KO and PEP have been dog-eat-dog competitors since the 19th century, so my guess is that PEP will be shut out of the GMCR option, leaving SODA the only available option. I also think her telling the market to "stay tuned" is a not so subtle way to say that PEP will definitely be in the home-carbonation space. Bottom-line: PEP will be in the home-carbonation space and SODA is their only viable option. Do the math.

I'm just spit-balling here, but I think SODA is bought or partners with a large international food company with a strong presence on supermarket shelves, and PEP partners with them. Just my two cents. GLTA.

  • FYI - After visiting the the SODA factory which is located in Maaleh Adumim, a delegation of Presbyterian Church leaders have rejected the boycott of SODA. The Presbyterian delegates told SODA representatives that the visit to the factory convinced them that the location of the factory enhances the business as well as the interpersonal relations between the Israelis and Palestinians and that they will express their support of SODA and Israel to the church administration and followers. GLTA.

    What we know so far

    by drjohnlong Feb 13, 2014 4:47 PM

Hey Burgh - I don't disagree that GMCR will seek other partners and brands for it's home-carbonation platform. In my post, I quote the same language that you do regarding GMCR's intention to have a multi-brand, multi-partner platform.

The point of my post was to respond to your suggesting the possibility that GMCR would be able to partner with PEP on a platform built, in part, with $1.25 billion of KO's money. When asked directly if GMCR was free to sign PEP, CEO Kelley refused to answer the question, saying that they were not going to talk about other brands or future partners. When asked if was fair to say that no brands or partners were excluded by the GMCR/KO deal, Kelley again refused to answer the question, saying "we won’t even talk about that."

It's clear to me (but is by no means certain) that Kelley's inability to even acknowledge that PEP was a potential GMCR partner in their home-carbonation platform was CEO-speak for the message that there's no way KO would allow that. These beverage titans have been battling one another for over a hundred years; I can't imagine that KO would let PEP free-ride on a platform that they financed and which may be the best way to recoup the declines in CSD bottle and can sales. That's just my take; yours or anyone else's may prove me wrong. That's what makes it a market. Have a great weekend my frined. GLTA.

UCAquaDaveCat - You're missing the point, hatemonger. The BSD Movement has already denounced all those companies (P&G, Intel, Volvo, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, McDonald's, Victoria's Secret), but you haven't. You have only denounced SODA. Why aren't you on the message boards of all those companies denouncing them? The reason is as obvious as your mental illness: you do not hate SODA because it has a factory in the "disputed" territories, you hate it because it is an Israeli company and you are a deranged antisemite. Hypocrisy is the tribute that hate pays to truth.

Wow, Dave you really are a perfect sphincter. There can be only one explanation for your anatomical perfection: you are another alias of Aqua/Ucbearcat. How do I know this to be so? To paraphase a popular cereal commenrcial, "Silly hatemonger, antisemiticism is for the disease-minded."

You clearly and proudly define yourself by your hatred of people. Today you are spewing your hatred of one religious group, but everyone who reads your poison-filled postings can see that your hate knows no bounds. Like the world's most famous antisemite, your hatred extends not only to all races and religions, but anyone who disagrees with you. Like your hero, your hatred fuels an uncontrollable need to destroy others, and will ultimately lead to your own personal dedstruction. Everyone on this board can see how your hatred has already exstinguished your own humanity, leaving you with nothing but a jumble of hateful instincts and reflexes. Your hatred blinds you to facts, history, reason, and the humanity of anyone who you perceeive as your enemy. Your need to post your rantings hundreds of times a day under several names reveals the desperation that comes from knowing that the nihilistic war you are fighting is a lost cause; that your hateful efforts will lead to your ignoble end in a metaphorical underground bunker of your own making; and that you will be forced to heel to the ultimate truth that you have dedicated your life against: that right (truth, tolerance, fairness, justice, peace) makes might, and that hate is no match.

So Dave Aquacat, understand that we are all amused at how you mock yourself with every one of your deranged posts, that we would pity you if you demonstrated any humanity, and that we fairly and correctly attribute your derangement to the cause you seek to champion. You are a sad and hateful clown. Shalom from a stone-age Catholic (I mention my faith just so you can't dismiss me in the same way you dismissed Wolf Blitzer). GLTA.

Dave - It so easy catching you in your lies. You've been posting under this name since August 6, 2013, and you have never posted anything about P&G, Intel, Volvo, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, McDonald's, Victoria's Secret. Just like the BDS Moveement, you have no credibility; both you and the other misfit misanthropes have no regard for the truth, history, or the well being of the people you claim to speak for. They prefer working with, eating with, and prospering with their Israeli neighbors. That is such a total burn on you and your hateful movement. It must kill you knowing that Palestinians say the best way to help them is for the BDS Movement to STOP helping them. Be sure that the world is not laughing with you, it's laughing at you. Shalom baby.

How are we to know what you think is important if you only use eleven exclamation marks at the end of a seven-word sentence? You know, if you really want to express emphasis you should put exclamation marks between each of the capital letters you U-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-S-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-E-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. F6isthatyou - If you measured your presence on this board in years, like many of us, and not in hours, like yourself, you would know that both Bcartertrade and Atty have been making positive, constructive, and clearly distinguishable contributions for a very long time. If you don't like the opinion Bcartertrade and Atty (and me as well) share, challenge the opinion; don't make juvenile and baseless personal attacks against them. It's clear you're not concerned about how you're perceived, but your personal attacks make you look like a child who has nothing to offer and is forced to resort to name-calling. Seth - I love that Pepsi-COLA is invested in a home-carbonation machine that can't make a COLA. This appears to me to be PEP blindly following KO's technology lead without regard to the technology's effectiveness. It's like PEP would rather be wrong with KO than right all by itself. I can hear PEP's Mom saying, "If all the other multi-national beverage companies jumped off the technology bridge, would you jump too?" GLTA. - Jim
