The Papua LNG project has already begun, with appraisal of PRL 15 approaching completion in the next few months and Total having assumed operatorship after arrival of numerous Total personnel in PNG, final selection of sites for the project, beginning of Basis of Design work, on-going environmental and other PDL work, beginning of gas marketing activities, etc., with hundreds of Total personnel working on the project. Total also emphasized their commitment to the project at the PNG Investment Summit in Brisbane, Australia yesterday. Drilling is now proceeding with the best rigs and highest level of efficiency ever achieved.

"Drilling operations" probably extends through all testing and evaluation subsequent to drilling completion. With multiple wells being drilled and tested, purchase opportunities probably are very limited, especially if they are selective about prices to be paid. Plenty of opportunity in that respect lately, but drilling and testing have been going on for a long time.

IOC already has an independently certified (GLJ) set of P10, P50, and P90 resource estimates disclosed in their filings with the SEC. I don't think the securities regulators would take kindly to their issuing on their own a different set of estimates, potentially creating all kinds of legal problems and liabilities. Also, how could they put a floor on the share price if the independently certified figures well above the current price have not?

From the Total deal and Joint Venture bank financing for the LNG project. You haven't figured that out yet?!

Also, any buyout will NOT be at a "bargain basement" price.

WRONG! It was one year ago, not two, and they are about to return to Raptor with the rig from Triceratops, in spite or top priority going to E/A. The old IOC could not come close to doing anything like that.

  • Gulf gas volume is bigger: Expert
Gulf gas volume is bigger: Expert

Source: The National, Monday August 3rd, 2015 By MALUM NALU

THE Papua (Gulf) LNG project can easily surpass the K19 billion PNG LNG project, it has been revealed. PNG oil and gas expert Peter Ken Gemar, who runs a mineral, mining, and oil and gas exploration consultancy, said the volume of gas in Gulf was bigger. Ken Gemar believes that the new field at Triceratops is bigger than Elk-Antelope. “So we’re definitely looking at big numbers in this place (Gulf),” he said. Ken Gemar said from his experience in Saudi Arabia, no exact figure could be given as new reservoirs would be found. “I see the same story in Gulf. I’m talking 25 years from now. In our lifetime they will happen.” Ken Gemar said Gulf needed the support of all provinces to make the LNG project happen. “Before it gets in, we need to get our agreement locked in and done properly,” he said. He said a Gulf gas hub should be established at where all kinds of business could be done at special purpose vehicles (SPVs). These included agriculture, power, manufacturing, medicine, processing of iron ore, and others. Ken Gemar said condensate was an industry on its own which could be developed at this gas hub. “We have the resources to develop all these industries for the next 25 years based on 15 TCF, we can do it,” he said. Petroleum and Energy Secretary Rendle Rimua agreed with Ken Gemar. “Only in Gulf, we have about 14.85 TCF, and as I said, these numbers never come down,” he said. “They will continue to go up, they will appreciate over time. Elk is sitting on 8TCF. We’re thinking that it will not go down. “We have 14.85 TCF but it could be 15. In the next six months it could be 20. May be 10 years from now, it’s going to be 30. That’s going to keep appreciating.”

I don't think MS is sitting on much of that for the short-term. Wells and Chandler had their own unique reasons for having to reduce or sell, with that now complete, and Cap Re is spread out in various large funds and definitely a long-term holder. Furthermore, the number of institutional holders has increased, so that ownership is broadening, a good thing.
Hession is not "playing a dangerous game with big holders" on certification or anything else. He is doing what is best for IOC and shareholders.
I do not think it can be bought out for $75, but if so, that would certainly be a reason to buy the stock here.

    by heathersoil Jul 28, 2015 7:21 PM

Oil Search did not and does not have anything like the contingent and prospective resources that IOC has, and therefore nothing like the potential value of IOC, but has a higher market cap because of current cash flow.

Total has no choice but to pay the money; it's already a legal obligation, regardless. If they buy out the Company, that if part of what they will have to "buy back" from shareholders. Of course, that cash may make IOC even more appealing as a buyout, but Total will not be able to get it for less because of it.

Drilling has already come up with "something substantial". That's why it went to 61 in June before the latest oil collapse. However, this management is on a roll, with this Company in by far its best position ever and a lot more to come, including more drilling results soon. That's why Morgan Stanley recently raised its current base target from 60 to 85. You are nobody and clueless.

Who's a moron? It was not 80 PPS, and it would not have been mostly up front, with no ownership. You can't even get almost two years ago straight. How can you evaluate it today as an investment. I would suggest that is more important, but then you must not be long anyway.
