    Shaggy,
Although aluminum doesn't "rust" like steel, it does corrode if not properly protected. This is especially true if the aluminum is in contact with steel in the presence of an electrolyte (like salty water). The dissimilar metals form a battery and the aluminum is subject to galvanic corrosion.. this can be prevented by proper design which isolates the two metals from each other.

PS: I think the "market" is getting nervous with all the bears forecasting a substantial decline sometime between tomorrow and 2020. Personally, I think some of this may be justified on the prospects of turmoil around the political situation this fall out through the 2016 elections. If the dems hang on to the Senate it will be by the slimes of margins. If the Republicans gain control, the president will still veto most of what they would pass. So gridlock goes on and nothing much gets done until 2017 at the earliest. Have faith that the USA can survive periods of no leadership.

    culleyjc52,
    Ask yourself these questions:
    1) Will the demand for oil in 20 years be higher or lower than in 2014?
    2) Are there likely to large undiscovered oil deposits on land?
    3) Will offshore drillers still require support services as the explore the ultra deep water areas?
4 Will Gulfmark be in a position to provide that support?

My answers would be higher, no, yes, & yes. Therefore, I think the current price represents a good point to add to my position.

  • I know it has been trading on a "when issued" basis as PGN-WI. When will it trade as just PGN? I thought the shares were to be distributed by now.

Well aware of their role. My thesis is that GLF will do well when their customers are busier than they are now.

    culleyjc52,
YTD Gulfmark has done better than their customers (the offshore drillers). I have positions in DO, NE, RIG, and ESV that aren't doing much at the moment. Be patient - the world runs on oil and the second half should be a little brighter for the whole segment. If the situation blows up in Iraq, there will be a mad scramble to find more non OPEC supply.
