If they rule against the merger we win because Staples must almost have a monopoly and will make too much money FTC says. If they let them merge because they will be allowed to right size the area and make money. How can they lose? Oh.. FTC got it wrong and no monopoly no merger just struggle to survive. Leave it to the government to !@#$ up a can't lose situation.

This is over. I think they got it wrong. Amazon should now purchase Office Depot and that will be it as Staples will become second fiddle. Staples really took it in the shorts on this one as they paid 250 million to ODP for nothing and set it up for their rivals. Lost merger attempt AGAIN. Like to see this in 5 years. Amazon in control and Staples under $10.

Amazon can do whatever it wants. If money is to be made in contracts you are a complete idiot if you think Amazon is not capable of creating a contract business. FTC makes it sound impossible like putting a man on mars. We currently have contract with staples and price compare with Amazon and purchase from Amazon without a contract because it saves us money. We are a fortune 500 company. If Amazon approached us with a significant discount for purchasing primary from them we would be all over it. We do not need some sales rep to purchase office supplies... really? you are too stupid to pick out pens and pencils or order an ink cartridge?

Numbers fabricated by FTC prove Amazon can't compete. If and when Amazon wants to compete they ill in a big way. Amazon has more maney then they know what to do with. Competing in business contact is easy compared to retail. You present our company with your discount plan and we say yes or no. You are in denial if you think Amazon will/is not be a big player in office supplies.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

May not be to late to take small position in ODP as they will either sell to Amazon or staples for about $10 a share. Nothing is guaranteed but this would not be a bad bet. in thirty days your either up big or out 2 bucks a share.

Can FTC be sued for destroying a possible merger with intent? FTC has gone to the extreme to fabricate a way to prevent destroy Staples. I am in the business and we are a fortune 100 company purchasing our office supplies from Amazon/ODP/Staples. It is an easy price check and order process and big time competition. If your company is stupid enough to not shop around and just by from the overpriced staples as the FTC argues... then you deserve to go out of business and pay those high prices. IF staples over bills the FTC for its office supplies like they deserve in order to recoup all these legal fees than the FTC can sue staples. Why are they presuming overcharging? Let free market reign (U.S. is a free market economy despite having an FTC) if staples raises prices you can be sure competition will step in. FTC should be sued.

  • Good god do NOT get in a bidding war with Amazon. Oh and FTC still has it's head up it's but if it thinks Staples has no competition without Office Depot. Hard to believe people believe FTC... clueless bureaucrats.

Time to liquidate this company and take the eight dollars and thirty cents. FTC has this SO wrong...
