I have had a substantial (for me) position in SAN for about 3 years until 2 months ago. Upon reviewing my portfolio, I asked myself why I owned this stock. The new dividend policy less 20% Spanish tax was, IMO inadequate for the risk. I sold all. To those Botin boosters. how do you like the new SAN? The argument of difficult times does not hold water/ Look at other banks prticularly some of the better run US banks and compare stock performance and dividend policy. A long term hope doesn't put cash in my pocket. Incidentally, I was always able to sell the stock dividend at a higher price than issue until recently.
I don't understand the term "trapped". We are always free to sell losers if we feel there is little possibility of a better near term future. Waite until tax sales start and you will see some massives sales of the oil stocks to offset captital gains.
It makes no difference. If you were to buy a home with extensive laminate in the living areas and bedrooms, would you want to know the country of origin or the source of the purchase? For years the NYS government denyed the toxicity of Love Canal in Western NY stating there was no actual harm.
Think of it this way. If, at current levels, you have $13.000 invested in LL and you sell given a point or two recovery, you will have $15,000 cash and a good tax loss. If you hold on, you may have only $5,000 or nothing. It pays to recognize a mistake and act on it promptly to preserve capital. Given your reasoning, you would still own RIM, the old GM and PanAmerican Airlines.
It is a totally destroyed brand with serious legal problems A trader's stock!! Look for a 2 point bounce and then sell. A 3 point drop and buy again. etc.
I looked at your posting history. I know you. You are one of those who blame your failures on anyone else but yourself. The big banks, the GOP, a conspiracy of some sort. Here is some advice, Look for what you did wrong and learn from these mistakes instead of blaming the world.
You don't say. I just made 2 points on a timely purchase. This will be 40 by Friday. My prediction makes as much sense as yours.
I formerly kept track of my stock portfolios on Yahoo. Recently , they have not allowed me to add newly purchased stocks making the board useless to me for tracking my investments. Not too serious, as my interactive broker keeps such records. However, I like Yahoo news and message boards, although, the message boards contain a high number of useless SPAM posts. This may be my browser but lately I am getting a frequent 'Yahoo failed to respond" and "due to a long running script" message. Complaining to Yahoo is useless. The changes are cutting down considerably on my use of the Yahoo site. Why the change in the finance page? Anybody have comments or advice?
I don't understand you proponents of the no profit pharmaceutical companies. Your best hope is they get bought out by big pharma. Maybe Sanofi, in this case. However, their strategy seems to be to minimize risk. I ,for one, believe in diversification. I don't have more than 10% of my portfolio in any one issue. I believe in investing in the no profit pharma companies by buying 5 with substantial institutional investment (they have done my DD) and hoping one makes it big and 3 will break even with one failure. Meanwhile, I have serious doubts about Afrezza. I presently have a bad cold with cough. Would Afrezza be effective? What about insurance companies? Over and over again they refuse to pay for the best therapy when there are effective, cheaper alternatives. Compare co-pays of Novolog and Lantus, my co-pays are $90 per month compared with $10 a month with Novolin alone.
Interesting. I get the same feeling about the unreasonable pumpers. "Sell LLY and NVO as they will be out of the insulin business. Load up on MNKD and you will be a millionaire."
Call a local endocrinologist and ask his/her opinion.
I agree with you about the auction farce. I sold August covered calls with a 12 strike price to take advantage of speculator excitement, I still believe in WEN actions regarding franchise and company stores and think that this stock will see 15 in the next year. The $15 minimum for fast food workers, as I understand it,will be introduced over 6 years. I, as a former business man, can figure ways to reduce the impact.
Gee!! you're willing to buy about 15% blow the 52 week low. Are you sure you have the right stock? Maybe you're one of the Affrezza idiots who thinks NOV is Nova-Nordisk.
I think there is more upside than down side risk at 75. We still have one more month of summer to go though. I just bought at 75,10. Incidentally, the fact that Yahoo does not allow me to track my portfolio and the amount of silly A double scribble spam on these boards has me feeling that involvement is a total waste of time and effort.
