Ridiculous indeed. I look for overshoots in the usual HFT dynamic. They do it on a routine basis all across the universe of public equities. I opened a trading tranche off of ~$16.33.....my view is these overshoots stem from the machines seeing all up and down the "food chain" of open actionables and migrate the bid in accordance with a max profit eval of the situation. Over and over and over again.....which is why I oft-times, these days, place "ridiculously" out of the money buy/sell bids in place.......it's all just part of understanding how modern dynamics are roiling the game these days....I'm not saying this is fair....I'm not justifying what is clearly a machine dominated game completely unrelated to the merits of what Wall Street used to be about....I'm only saying it is....what it is...

    Bid now $16.38.

Interesting action...not all that different from most sessions...just a weee bit more accentuated. Zip, the big goes north. POW, the selling comes out and knocks it down. Then Zip (again) the bid shoves higher and, POW, so goes the selling...right now it's a "slug fest" going on between the two sides. Wonder who's gonna bring out the nukes first? ;-)

And an immediate drop. Was it me? I closed out a trading position in 'em at ~$109.10. Highlow saw the profit. Highlow took the profit. ;-)

I'd roll it into BAC but....bid churning (again) at ~$16.47...nothing to see or expect out of this one so I think I'll just go roll around on the floor in the profits, heh, and wait on a better set-up....hell....maybe even GILD if it contnues to /pb....but let's see

    Now THAT'S true manipulation

It comes to this. If you know the patterns of the "professional BOT's," the sources they skim thru and react (instanteously withouth any human thought) to.....and Edgar is certainly one of those water holes for the BOT's...then it's very easy to set yerself up.....float something thru that portal....and execute off the BOT's reaction. Hit-n-run scamming....classic in its fashion.

Looks like this pretty much will slam the door on (future) easy access to the likes of Edgar me thinks...

    So it goes.

Meanwhile...'tis Friday....BAC PM bid $16.53...nothing to get excited about. I expect the same chug and churn and sideways grind today just like yesterday....and the day before that..and the day before that...and the.....

    Equity:

Hey....free market "liberal" types would say the less SEC (read here the less Guberment) the better. So what you want? Less guberment or more focused reg's and/or monitoring? Can't have it both ways. Heh! This is simply a case of being careful what you wish for? ;-)

Anyway.....the only true way to deal with this situation...and I'm seeing it to varying degrees everywhere I look since it's not - strictly speaking - a BAC only phenomenon - is to radically reduce that float. I see it everywhere, but the magnitude of it on an individual equity basis seems to be a function of the size of the outstanding float in the underlying entity. This sort of action needs three things, 1) relatively low pps, 2) huge float, and 3) direct connectivity (to the institutions) and machinery to drive VOLUME (easy to do when you have the first two items). Put those three conditions together and you've the basis for a perpetual money-making machine....

Oh...there's actually a SECOND WAY to deal with this churn. An easy peasy way, too. Eliminate the Institutional transaction rebates to their clients. POOF would go the easy money. But since those rebates are something of a narcotic to all players involved....well...what're the odds of that happening, eh?

Clintonistas 2.0? Oh god don't make me gag. Not that the possibility of ANY of the Rep clown....err...candidates makes me feel any different....man have we devolved as a country or what? But I tend to agree....Clintonistas 2.0 is probably what we're gonna get....

  • Nest, Hope, et.al. Are you following the Avon unfolding situation. Folks want to know what overt manipulation looks like....check that one today. Looks like someone a little less bright than most was trying to float a bogus buy-out offer to the media...who of course bit on it like the happy fish they are....and may have played the quick reaction (by the markets) card to effect some profits? This is all just my WAG....but that's what it looks like.

    Now THAT'S manipulation...

Human minions or machines? Regardless, frankly the human touch doesn't matter in these sorts of situations. Just set the machines to "auto-select-churn," kick back and let those rebate monies pour into your coffers....easy money if you can get it....bid $16.49 again....

  • The way it's going BAC will be lucky to close just a bit north of flat today. Master has been strangling da Pooch all day long. Don't know the why of it, but so it goes. At least GILD is up +$2.20....with a good chance of seeing $110 tomorrow as it looks like it's finally broken out...would that BAC have a similar type day, eh? Almost half way thru 2015 and the bid is only about half-way back from the fall it took in the month of January...it cannot get out of its own way to save itself.

Bid now $16.50....what IS it with .50, eh?

    I don't know what you're fussing about. Look! Bid $16.53! It's up 5 whole pennies! ;-)

Bid now $108.36. Looks like a break-out is occurring....but this IS GILD, and there are still 2.5 hours left in the session. It could go to $105 from here. It also could go to $110. I wonder which overall direction it will be? ;-)

Bid $16.46 weak and being continually pounded....I'm waving a bid down around .42. The session opening gap has now been (about) closed so I'm operating on the "close and go" aspect of the theory.....but let's see how it goes....ohhhh for the "attention span" of a computer, eh? To become a hare to the human tortoises as the machines must see us humans. Just for a second or two is all I's be asking.... ;-)

Breaking on thru? Maybe? Average volume, though. So the "tell" ain't exactly clear...yet. Not that I ain't luvin' the upswing. Sure beats 'ol chug plod and churn BAC...

And NOW it gets interesting...bid breaking top of channel...now $107.74. Volume could be heavier but maybe at last we'll see some bonafides in the upside department? Let's see how it plays...

And yet AGAIN Master does the yankage....there the bid was cruising towards .60 when, YANK! Bid now .50 and threatening to go back (again) sub .50. There's a rhythm...a pattern...in all of this...watch the Ask.....you know a take down is in progress when it shows modestly, appears to be fading under a constant pounding but then the bid fails. And as the bid starts to fail the ask show sudden inflates hugely. It's a routine sell side tactical process not just associated with BAC (by the way). I see it played this way all across the public equity space. Kind'a indicative of machine action. Errrr....just a presumption of course. In any case the .51 ask just started showing large and the bid is again fading...here come the .40's again....

    See the churn...play that churn...

Bid now $16.49 and still fading...

And since these threads are free to post you'll just have to deal with it. I simply ignore all of 'em..they're pervasive as flys on.....?

As far as GILD goes until it can get on top of ~$107.50 - and on volume - I view it as channel bound. Can't/won't play the flip flop from long to short to long to....game on it, though....because just as sure as I short when it looks to be again pulling back from $107.50 THAT will be the time it zooms to the sky....so I'm just playing one side of that particular equation.

Meanwhile....BAC bid $16.57. The ask is sitting there with just sufficient a show to keep the upside clogged...
