Jim,Mark,George, et.al...I truly believe that everyone understands the need to continually work toward a cleaner environment..And I believe the US has been doing that..I also believe that media and politics have almost "radicalized" the concern to the point that groups have taken clean energy to the point of absurdity..No new wood burning stoves? Really? The EPA is involving itself in issues that simply reek of political mantra,in my opinion.Telling farmers that simple drainage ditches on their property are now under control and supervision of that agency is absurd, in my opinion..And this "control" has spread into areas that boggle the reasonable mind..The coal industry has been hammered by media and politicos, and has been damaged severely in Appalachia..Reason, repeat, REASON, needs to be applied to all new environmental regs...Coal and natgas still supply the VAST majority of our baseline energy needs, and will continue to do so in the near/intermediate term..THINK before calling for a casket for the coal industry, and consider ALL the facts before forming an opinion..HOG
IMO, we are getting quite a boost from the election and the upcoming winter blast across the Midwest..Tonto,if you're reading, I've now moved completely out of the April 2.5's :-) I'll take that return any day! Will be looking for any pull back to move out and up....Just thinkin' out loud, and reminding the shorts that there is more than one way to make a profit...Regards,HOG
Great post,All..Couldn't agree more..I actually believe that low current stock prices, geo-political events and low interest rates might stimulate acquisitions sooner rather than later..We'll see...HOG
JJ, that was obviously an old article..The dates mentioned are looking ahead to 2012..Having said that, there was a WallStreetJournal article today discussing Repsol's 10 billion dollar cash holding that they have set aside for acquiring assets..Worth a read, IMO..
Gold, I don't believe that the deal was ever finalized for a Repsol purchase of Talisman..My understanding is that it was left with Repsol considering purchase of some selected assets of Talisman..Can't find where anything was completed, but I certainly could be wrong..
Copy that,Rainbow..I'm sittin' just south of the Barnett, west of the Haynesville, and just north of the Eagle Ford..Watchin' it all with great interest..Have personal plays in the Trinity Sands (old wells),some in the Haynesville, and leases in the Permian in west Texas..Oil patch has changed so much over the last 30 years, but greed and fear still roil the market :-) Best of luck to you,HOG
"Supply is way up." Rainbow, I read the article that you've paraphrased..Good stuff..Actually,if you'll continue researching, you should find that the current total inventory of 3.57 trillion cubic feet is the lowest since 2008..Stockpiles are approx. 6.8% below the 5 year average..You will want to do your own verification of those numbers. They are my best understanding only..Could be an interesting heating season ahead..Best regards, HOG
C'mon, folks..Gather round mentally..This matters to Natty prices...did anyone notice where the Dec. contract traded today? :-) SD is FAR less hedged on natty..
Tonto, I've gotta give credit where credit's due..You appear to have made an excellent trade here with ACI..You and I simply have different trading scenarios with this issue..While I have recently put some hay in the barn with long term call options, you have steadily been right...Guess I just had to work a little harder on this one to get any ROI. BTW, with the Kentucky Senator drivin' the bus next year, I think there still may be a short/mid term play on the long side for coal..Gonna be interesting over the winter months in the domestic energy sector..Regards,HOG
Run, check today's CPC 6-10 and 8-14 day forecasts...PROLONGED COLD BLAST coming to the eastern half of the U.S...Energy needs will soon be a hot topic for many, in my opinion..Best Regards,HOG
If the media starts using the "vortex" word as they did last winter, interest in Natty should rise on trading desks...Good luck,HOG
Congrats to traders that either initiated a position last month or are "trading around a core"..Well done! Certainly wouldn't blame you for taking some profits this week! Best regards,HOG
mho07, Thanks for the heads up..IMO, this could be a game changer..I believe this goes beyond next week's election, and looks out to the Presidential race which will begin in earnest very soon..I think that this could be considered the most positive news from the Feds regarding the domestic coal industry in some time..Regards,HOG
Looks to have moved up nicely off the 50% retracement..Will it hold? Let's hope earnings don't disappoint, and the elections go well for the fossil fuel lobby...GLTA longs...HOG
"Might be a good place to average down right here at 3.90" cmontx, I surely am not qualified to offer ANY advice on ANY investment strategy..Particularly a small cap oil patch issue...I consider these type of stocks a craps shoot..high risk yet potential high reward..pure speculation, but that's what makes the market so enticing, ain't it? :-) You pays your money and takes your chances! Best of luck,HOG
Agreed..IMO it's also worth mentioning that the PPS went from a USD 3.56 close on the 13th to a USD 4.57 close on the 16th...I believe that a 30-50% retracement of that sharp 1.01 gain could reasonably be expected..Do the math, and today SD was sitting on the 50% mark..Having said all that, I think it would be a good thing if we bounce up a tad from today's close..We'll see...GLTA,HOG
