The stock is staying close to the recent Tencent stock purchase price of 23.80. They knew what they were doing.

You are full of it. What JD and Tencent did was excellent. The stock roared. Tencent is already making a profit on its new share purchase. Excellent job! Keep up the good work!

Of course you will criticize it and call it a charade and staged. Shorts need the stock to go down.

Tencent has set the bottom in at 23.80. Will they buy more? I say yes, if the price drops below 23.80 but you know what? I doubt if that will happen! A small percentage covered already. The rest will do so Friday or later...with less and less profit then they thought.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

So sorry shorts. Lockup delayed until Dec 5

If earnings is great I see a lot of short traders sweating the wait to Dec 5 not Nov 18. A lot of things can happen in 18 days...

  • Any significant news event from JD triggers an 18 day delay on the lockup. A quote from the latest news article:

"JD will report its third-quarter earnings on Nov. 17, which triggers another 18-day wait on the lockup. Assuming the company has no other material news events, the lockup should expire on or around Dec. 5."

If we get another significant news event after earning and before Dec 5 we get another 18 day wait.

The article also states Facebook did not drop much when it's lockup expired because there was a lot of shares short so...Take a look at the number of JD short shares - 32 million as of 10/31/14. The stock has already had a pullback this past month by short traders. They will help prop up the stock when they cover just like they did for Facebook.

I'm not exactly sure what is going on. Maybe the high amt of shares short were traders expecting a price drop after lock up. Maybe now they don't want to hold shares because the risk is too great to short shares during earnings announcement. In any case we are experiencing high volume and the best day in months. I like it.

As of 10/15/2014 JD has 29,567,570 short / 4,710,931 avg traded per day = 6.276375 days to cover. Earning report is prior to open on 11/17/14 so less than 5 days trading to cover. Shorts are scrambling to cover prior to earnings. We could be in the beginning of an upswing that could last a week.

I thought the 29 million shares short were shares going to be used against lock up shares but maybe not. In that case people need to cover now. If you are long this could be a nice week to watch.

Lock up expiration is 11/18/14...one day after earnings release. If the earnings release is great normally with 29 million shares short on a stock with 5mil avg traded daily, you would see a HUGE rush to cover but no not in this case because they already own the shares, they are covered, they just have to wait a day. Regardless of the price going up or down they are safe.

So what is going to happen? They will cover of course. No sense leaving covered short shares open as they cancel each other out. They will sell to free up cash. Net affect though is nothing. It's new buyer and sellers that will tell the story. My bet is we have a great quarter. The Chinese have a way to make things look good. LOL!

We may drop a bit more as others figure out a way to lock in profits. Afterwards a big woosh in volume then the move up....unless the earnings release is bad(which I seriously doubt will happen).

    Dear clueless,
Most of shares have been sold already thru shorting...like 29 million shares worth. When the lockup is over they will cover.

Look at option trading prices after earnings release and lockup expiration. Puts are cheap. Calls say we move up.
