thx Ino!! Did you have a digital card? How did that work? Seems strange to build an app for such a short time to then toss it.
I noticed this last week that the site was empty and that it brings you to BBNow website. There are 2 iphone apps available. One is for BBonD where you can rent latest movies and this is working. The other is empty just like the website and doesnt work. It's the one with digital cards and funny enough a Store Locator .. guess they could change 'store' to 'kiosk'. Anyway, very strange that they built an app with all these bells and whistles and have it not fuction
wont let me cut and paste the full article .. but if you go to Dish website and where they talk about 'Blockbuster's future' ... "DISH will retain licensing rights to the Blockbuster brand, and key assets, including the company’s significant video library" .. it's what they are saying!!
Taz .. see the topic I just put out on where Skype's IP was 'held'.. maybe the BB IP is being held in BB Holding (and not in the Trust or the Trust is connected with it)
Heard something on CNBC this morning and did a little digging .. apparently Skype did not own it's own IP, rather it licence it , it was held in a Holding Co called Joltid.. so when ebay tried to IPO the IP had to be litigated out and was a mess and they couldn't and had to stop ..Sounds like the IP at BB is set up just like Skype was .. ours is in a Trust and as many have said for years here, Dish is Licencing it just like Skype was .. and by the way even Dish have been quoted as saying the same .. and also, our old boy Carl in tossing mud at ebay for how it messed up, Carl knows all about IP!!
Google The valuable IP lessons to be learned from eight years of Skype
Dish making use of the pipe ...
The new multi-year deal will see Disney delivering best in sports, news and entertainment as well as expanded video-on-demand content to Dish customers, at home, and on-the-go out of home on smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and connected devices.
"The creation of this agreement has really been about predicting the future of television with a visionary and forward-leaning partner. Not only will the exceptional Disney, ABC, ESPN entertainment portfolio continue to delight our customers today, but we have a model from which to deliver exciting new services tomorrow," Dish President and CEO Joseph Clayton said in a statement.
more cloudiness from Dish ... "Dish plans to offer its customers later this year a new feature " "Dish users will have to authenticate their subscription before using the feature" "Dish's on-demand video feature will include Disney's content"
Under the terms of the new deal, Dish also receives several streaming options.
* Dish has the right to offer -- though it didn't commit to offering it -- live-streaming of Disney's channels, including ABC and ESPN, as part of regular Dish subscriptions.
* Dish plans to offer its customers later this year a new feature -- likely through its Dish Anywhere app -- for streaming Disney's content that are currently available through Disney's online channels, including Watch ESPN, Watch Disney, Watch ABC Family and Watch ABC. Dish users will have to authenticate their subscription before using the feature.
* Dish's on-demand video feature will include Disney's content, which is currently missing.
* Dish will make available for the first time several channels, including Disney Junior, Fusion, ESPN Goal Line and ESPN Buzzer Beater.
* Dish will launch ESPNEWS, ESPNU, Disney Channel and ABC Family in high definition.
if you google Lojas Blockbuster maquinadecinema you will find the Kiosks that claim trademarks are both 2009 Trust and BB LLC .. I think that is a change from before where it only was the Trust .. I could be wrong!!
BLOCKBUSTER name, design and related marks are trademarks of the BB 2009 Trust and Blockbuster LLC
if you read their Blog they are very open (unlike Charlie) .. seems they 'brought back' BB to UK and did not have to pay for it as a going concern .. "we would like to launch is a on demand service via TV."
From Dec 23 2013:
Crash Entertainment Group (CEG) a UK based company is looking to bring the brand back to the UK and is in talks with Dish Network to licence the brand.
If talks are successful We will not be opening any stores yet as this will be a on-line operation only for now. Membership accounts from customers will no longer exist under CEG and customers would need to register for a new account for free. Games, Music, Movies, Electronics & of cause Rental will be a big part of the business. Online rentals will be available via new platforms and available for download rental and we will look to expanding this to other media in the future.
One of the new platforms we would like to launch is a on demand service via TV. We have spoken to TIVO & Virgin Media about launching a service and it looks promising. All this is now with Dish Networks and how we could potentially use the brand again in the UK
prob another deal like Mex .. I see Crash already have the BB Ticket Stub on their Web Site page .. deal completed 2/2
and they even feel the need to post BB's future on the Crash website
DISH will retain licensing rights to the Blockbuster brand, and key assets, including the company’s significant video library. DISH will focus on delivering the Blockbuster @Home service to DISH customers, and on its transactional streaming service for the general market, Blockbuster On Demand.
Available to anyone, Blockbuster On Demand is a transactional streaming video service offering thousands of movies viewable on connected devices including PCs, tablets, smartphones, and select Samsung TVs and Blu-ray players
Stone .. that's a very good Q? Why has Dish not embraced BB? As I said in another post, my thoughts are that Charlie has been given a certain amount of time to get the Truck to Fly. If he doesn't then Plan B is in play which could mean that BB is open for others to bid on. So if BB could come open to other bids then why would Charlie 'sell' it to others hence no 'embrace'. Im of the thought that Charlie is involved with LSQ just to block anyone else from putting themselves in a position where they could go after BB. Let say that come Apr27th the NOL are in play and change of ownership rules are relaxed then wouldn't that make BB more attractive? I think so, that is why I think Charlie will want to get this tied up before Apr26th (if as i suspect that Charlie is on the clock)!! All IMO!!!
and just after Ichan got the final clearance from the Lyme V Icahn over BB .. you think someone gave Carl the heads up so they got the 'adversary' out of the way?? Na .. no way!!!
Stores are closed I guess. Blockbuster website is all but useless .. you have to go to the NOW site to get anything. There are 2 apps still available on the iphone, interestingly the one with the digital card and the BB torn tic doesnt seem to be working or updated.
Another interesting point to me is why Charlie is hell bent on getting LSQ. I understand timig, cost and having your own network etc .. but really BB could just become a partner of Lsq (go to the website there are many Co's signed up like that) , they do have an OPEN network policy. Charlie could negotiate a favorable deal on his way out of Lsq BK .. it would take a long time to spend his 1b$ downloading movies .. IMO!!!
who knows .. maybe Dish have till the 3yr end period to close on BB .. maybe the flame is under Charlie now .. just thinking out loud, time will tell
Taz .. I see old Last3past is attempting to cast the business of Old BB over the whole business of new BB .. next he'll yell something along the lines 'show me where BBliq is part of the new Digital BB?' .. my answer, show me where it isnt?? Thanks for the shares sukka's!!!
