i didn't realize the 'pump' on pump&dumps lasts for so many years. when's that dump coming? And don't call the retracement to where price was a month ago the 'dump'
also, boy, how's Frost going to exit his position on the 'dump'? D'you figure that one out yet? Or are we supposed to believe that Frost hasn't a clue and you know it all? pump n chump lol
I got faked out of ziop just below $10/share, rang some gains but kept a small core long position. looked like it was going to $7 at least, maybe $5. Wanted to get back in lower leading up to the dividend. but chart was a fake out. Looks like it's headed higher. After the xon distribution I still have over 300 shares of ZIOP but annoyed I got shaken out of a large position. That's the discipline though, can't stress it.
"But this also begs the question, why are insiders still buying Opko shares and not putting that money into BRLI?"
those OPK insider buys since the merger announcement were token buys, meant as a signal to mean, "don't worry, we are still holding and buying more, and shareholders should feel good either buying or holding opk right now too" while they load up on BRLI shares. Once the arb is done, they (mostly Frost) will resume their dollar cost average accumulation of opk shares. As the sun rises.
I feel sorry for these BRLI shareholders... it's kind of like when your nice, sleepy small town gets overtaken by a giant motorcycle rally. OPK heads are kind of a fast crowd.. hehhe. and we have our own motley band of desperate shorts following us around, constantly trying to pick our pockets (but never getting ahead lol)
The nice BRLI folks are probably in a little shock. It's ok guys... the march up will resume soon. Many of us OPK longs have joined you as BRLI longs. There goes the neighborhood.....
farry you are correct this deal is by no means a sure thing. However I don't see BRLI shareholders voting it down to see their share price plummet and pay out a $54m fee to Opko to quash the deal.
The price to be paid is 2.75 shares of OPK for every share of BRLI.
"Based on a closing price of $19.12 per share of OPKO common stock on June 3, the transaction is valued at approximately $1.47 billion"
while OPK may have been trading at a premium at $19+, don't forget BRLI shareholders are receiving a 60% premium 2.75/1 at that price. Something tells me the 60% premium was arrived at while taking OPK's shareprice premium into account.
chew on that one, ambulance chasers.
How cold was it here in new england last winter?? It was so cold, I saw a lawyer with his hands in his own pockets.
ba dum. dum! pshhhhhhhhhhh
"Don't you know what "shopping the co" means? Did BRLI Mgt do that?? I DON'T THINK SO!"
how do you know? just because they didn't shop it publicly doesn't mean there weren't discussions with other buyers.
you got me beat, Drangles. Bought my first 300 shares at 3.68 about 5 years ago. Then bought the vast majority of my shares between $4-5. However I picked some up at $13.69 more recently. Also loaded up on BRLI today. lovin it
If anyone thinks Dr. Frost will let this deal fall apart, please pass whatever you're smoking to the crackhead on your left. Frost will support the OPK price to make sure this deal gets done. Don't believe me? That's fine. Just watch and learn. This is an important piece in Frost's master plan. There are tremendous synergies here, both companies businesses are very much complementary to one another. Gotta love the guy. He puts this thing together and then the market responds by selling OPK shares back to Frost like it's a Black Friday sale.... gotta love capitalism :)
'xactly. great opportunity in the meantime. But once that premium gap closes it's over and downward pressure will alleviate along with Frost picking up buying again. I'm not selling opk but I am buying BRLI
"will be less remaining ignorant BRLI longs selling after the merger"
I'm talking about BRLI longs selling their new opk shares after the merger.
BTW. I am long opk (accum steadily from $3.68-13.76) and just bought BRLI today. I'm not shorting OPK just holding my shares and buying BRLI to take advantage of the arb. I think those lawyers are chasing ambulances. And I like this merger. Both sides will eventually figure out it's a win/win.
even thinking of the bros and their banter! makes me smile everytime. what a gift they have given us for all these years! Thanks for the reference anne, love it! xoxoxo
good one, anne :)
RIP Tom Magliozzi, you are greatly missed. Even after death that man (and his living brother) bring a smile to my face everytime I hear their voices re: Click and Clack
So the more opko longs who move into BRLI, there will be less remaining ignorant BRLI longs selling after the merger (since the opk arbitrage tourists will want to keep their new opk shares).
Funny thing is, as OPK longs sell to move into BRLI, opko price gets depressed, which is in turn scaring BRLI longs into selling brli shares at cheaper prices. This phenomenon is of course temporary but presents us with a great opportunity. Ah.... capitalism. Gotta love it.
It's doubtful this deal isn't going to happen, given the fees BRLI will be liable if they back out.
A GREAT ARBITRAGE!!!!
Heads up BRLI folks, by 'ignorant' I mean you are likely not familiar with opko and may not like the risk profile either. Until yesterday I was not familiar with BRLI myself, so I would say I'm ignorant about BRLI. Learning more and more though. So please do not mistake the 'ignorant' comment as disparaging.
