i miss Ed Koch ...
and you have held through 2Q's ??? pretty long term view there , but the crew that originally set sail
have been holding(with attendant buying and selling of some shares) for more quarters than you can
count ... take a guess how we feel about our 70 cent shares , 50 centers and 20 cent shares ... not a bad
ride .. eh ????
i started working there about year and a half ago ...
from what i can see HD has become an adult business ... and are now running like a business ...
do you really think that there is a need for a certified whatever to be making $35-40 / hr for the same thing
that a 10 dollar associate can do ??? whenever a company goes through hyper growth , like HD did , it
builds a whole bunch of #$%$ , secretaries get a secretary ... perks all over for middle/exec mgmt ...
all of this is good for the stock , yes , not pleasant for employees , but every person has to decide
which hat they are wearing ...
IBM was a wreck in the early 90's and they needed to bring in an outsider to straighten it out ... heard exactly
the same comments about big blue that you and others gripe about HD ... IBM stock went from 42 to 206 today ,
with 2 2:1 splits along the way ...
are you interested in making money in the stock market ??? i don't think so ... garce
kindly explain how a split will benefit shareholders ??? i don't understand .... all a split will do , is cost the
company money to do the split ....
Goog , AAPl , netflix , priceline ... shareholders doing very will with no splits and share prices much much
higher than IBM ... g
methinks that Mr. Gross has fallen in the manner of so many rock stars , sports stars , movie stars
and the such ... ever since the media has made his name household , like so many others , he
needs to make earth shaking prognostications ... for many years , i respected Bill far more than
remember last year when he said the bond rally was done and positioned Pimco for that , then
the greatest bond rally of all time left him redfaced .. he must be still stinging over that move ......
like the rest of us , he is not infallible ...
but , in a sense , he makes a great point .... whether it's bonds , equities , any company or
the economy itself ... the right thing to do is bundle all of the pain in one package and take
it up front .. putting off the pain , or attempting to mitigate it just means a longer period of
malaise .... take the pain today and get up and get going again in the morning ....
too bad Bill ... same rules apply to all .. even though bonds have NEVER had such a rally , nor
been at the threshold of many years of declining prices , they are no different than stocks,
real estate or anything else ...
fact is , NOBODY knows what lies ahead .. it's all new territory ... how surprised will people
be over the next 5-10 years to discover that an economy can have a real boom WITH rising
interest rates ?? yup , yer right ... it hasn't happened before , but then neither has a 30 year
rise in bond prices ever happened ...
best advice , at this juncture , is to GET OUT OF GOLD ... now there's something that
has no practical use(save a few applications in electronics) and is grossly overvalued , and
could very well experience a 50% correction or more .... with disinflation continuing , the
US (and the globe) could still face a serious deflation problem and the last thing you want
to hold in deflation is gold or any other asset ... cash, on the other hand only gets more
.don't expect fairness in this life.
My best friend used to tell people to go get a bucket of paint , a 4 inch brush , then go to a wall
and paint 4 words .."life is not fair" .. start with that premise
????? what was the lie ? i never mentioned anything about it ... i did posit over
a year ago that rifle sights could be yet another application for microdisplays ,
then shortly after some news thing mentioned the same ... btw , i never lie ,
can't run very fast if i'm looking over my shoulder ... i do make mistakes and
sometimes say/write something without giving info a chance to synthesize ,
sometimes my brain gets skewed after drinking some river water , but that
with so many other gambling venues available , why pick stocks ??? timing is a fools game ,
if you have to do it , then don't buy/sell the equities , use options ...
looking for a signifigant "pop" with a large cap is not prudent ...
if you want to trade and try to time ... try MCP .. it's been a traders dream for a few years
now ... frequent swings of 10% or better .... garce
Imagine our vets coming home much younger than in my day and going to our liberal colleges and trying to sit with these folks/adjusting to life again.
i have to imagine they puke their guts out every day ...
friggin libral's going to wreck us ...
yup , but Sculley has mentioned before that no way will the
company consider a buyout at fire sale prices ...
the BEST secenario would be for one of the big guys to want
a partnership .. that would really boost EMAN and could set up
the b/o down the road at a decent price ... g
yeah and employers scour facebook profiles of prospective employees and such ..
we now have a nation of people anxious to post their alter egos to the world and everyone spying on everybody
JOE MCCARTHY would be revelling today .....
wasn't there ... had last minute sched change at work ... that won't happen again ... next year i'll put in
for vac day
Don .. remember the last go 'round ??? massive shorting at inclusion and a year
later covered when Eman was moved out ... we might be better off staying off
the indexes for a while ... g
Sony could just set up nine machines with nine teams experimenting in parallel.Chris also mentioned Samsung, in particular, as having a "great deal of R&D heft”.
i love how these guys throw out a single statement and allow imaginations to run wild ..
certainly Sony , Samsung , et al have huge R&D capabilities .. they also have beaurocracies to deal
with ... like OLED is the only r&d project to be considered .. internal rangling can leave many projects
underfunded , or the "cliques" get theirs up front ... for Sony or anyone else to turn on 9 machines
and dozens of engineers and techs for a project is not something that is likely to happen ..
that's why you see the big companies constantly buying up smaller , more focused companies ....
still , it would not hurt for one of the big guys to start marketing something OLED to ignite public
cognizance ... "a rising tide lifts all boats" .. Emagin could certainly enjoy the ride ... g
just ask "the average joe or jane in the street what OLED is " .. until they start slobbering over
the "new technology" OLED will remain a "club" phenomenon ... g
remember .. Television was invented around 1926 , was a big thing at the 1939 World's Fair ,
yet even by the mid 50's there were still many households without a TV ... it's a long , arduous
grind .... and Emagin is still enjoying life in the womb ... g
LOL ... it's amazing how many people think that they are important enough to show up on somebody's spy
screen .... then they go out and spill their guts on Facebook or whatever ...
the next time some group flies a plane into a skyscraper we will hear the wailing about "why didn't
the government know something " ... ya can't beat human nature .. it'll whip you every time .. .g
give me a break ... should people really expect privacy on the phone ??? probably many on this
board are too young to remember earlier telephone days , like back in the 50's .. most people
were on a PARTY LINE ... (private lines were too expensive for the average joe/jane ... when i
was a kid , we used to pick up the phone and listen in to whatever convo was going on .. got
some juicy gossip ....
we really do need more jobs , with overtime ... take that idle time away from the humans .. they
can't handle it ... garce
study a bit of history .. this is nothing new and the US has not succumbed to
totalitarianism ... from banning citizens to hold gold , to rationing and who knows
what else ..
most of the emotion connected to these things come from the venerable 4th
estate ... creating mass paranoia and not concentrating on the basic facts .....
political/social theatre, if you like a handle on the matter ...
besides .. the US is not run by Washington , DC , but by corporations ....
if the US was such a bad place , then millions of people would not be trying
to leave their homes , risk prosecution and even death to get in here ....
wake up and smell the roses , quit complaining and move on ... that's what
US citizens have been doing for centuries ...
I am far more concerned about Facebook and other social internet sites ,
enlisting sheep to be herded .... the upcoming generation is more than
willing to live strictly by entitlements and caving in ..
the govt does not need to "spy" on it's citizens in order to control the masses ,
they can get the masses to volunteer .. it's human nature .. very powerful . .
later .. .garce
he government has been "spying" on us for more years than you can count ... what has come of it ??
also , life should be viewed as a series of comprimises ... wanna be safe from terrorism
germany didn't have a hitler (before) hitler.
any idea who they did have ???
clue .. he was a tyrant ... AH was like a Poncho Villa to the German people ... of course,
like any other leader with central power needed to identify an antagonist for the people
to rally around ... come to think of it , every society that has ever been has followed
the same recipe ...
nothing new here ... this county is so large , that anyone who wants to give up creature
comforts can go off the grid .. you have this choice ...
"live it or live with it " ... g
