yes , but the report that i heard made reference to an "act" , which must be passed by Congress that
has something to do with a mandate to pump money into Africa for infrastructure ... great idea , it's just strange that nobody seems to hear about a bill like this (not a cheap one either) and so many other
things are wrangled into oblivion ... just like yearly changes to the tax code , surprise when you
with with the accountant ... anyway ... good to see that you stay close Jad ... we could be
approaching the threshold .. g
vz has been a great story the past 5 years and more to come ... my new money is now
headed for GE , have a position , but want to build more , will buy up to 30 .. i'm expecting
very good div growth , if it doesn't come , then i'll cap the position ... thanks .. garce
sell some IBM and buy VZ , you can always reverse that trade , but at least you'll get a great div and some
capital appreciation , then come back to Big Blue ... g
i am now thinking that we'll see Ginny as another John Akers ... handed a box of Pandora's gems ... if that's
the case , it was well known to the board and exec circle ... she may be getting used as a place holder,
once the storm is about to pass we'll see a new CEO , who will be wildly successful .. garce
didn't run out of patience .. short story = 2009 .. laid off after 32 yrs , 2 months later divorce , then major
surgery for my son , i held all through the downturn but now have to be very careful with my monies , 401K
has been shot (the divorce was expensive) .. i just can't risk something like IBM at this time .. i fully expect
to see IBM regain strength , but that may take 2-3 years ... cultural change is needed , once again , the
chip matter needs to be resolved and traction in the cloud will be slow , due to so many powerful competitors ,
IBM has never had to face true competition , especially for their "golden egg" part of the business ...
i expect to come back in , but probably not for another year .... no price target on reentry , i need to
see very traction in the cloud , mining of the patent trove , and a new line of business ...
later ... garce
we all know the topics at the top of the list and the gridlock in DC and endless wrangling .. now , there is this
African conference , GE committing 2 billion and other companies chipping in another 13 billion ... all of this
stemming from the African development Act .. when was THAT passed ?? i never heard a thing , no
debates , no wrangling , but the US bound by this to funnel corporate money to build out African infrastructure ...
i'm certainly not against that , it's a great thing , but how do these things go through Congress with no
mention , let alone fanfare ????
i'll wait and see ... my guess is that the Carp will put on an aquatic ballet once the
music gets revved ... i don't agree with a solution that is aimed to keep them out of
the lakes , sooner or later the birds will transport them from river to lake ... g
i'm probably a bit optimistic ,rock , but i'm looking for most of the lost rev in Q1 to come home
in Q2 .. .plus whatever else was on tap ...
good to hear some creative think about the carp , but those "sounds" are bound to have
some other affect that's not appreciated ... i still say that commerical fisherman could put
a great dent in the carp population .. you cannot get better fertilizer than fish of any kind .. cast the nets
where are carp are and there won't be too many other fish taken .. maybe Mosaic and Potash
are putting up some quid to avoid this solution ?? ...g
the Bears and Giants are still in for the 2014 season , we should know a lot more by the end of
gap getting a bit narrow ...
Rock , i disagree a bit with your rev estimate for Q2 .. i believe that it will be at least respectable .. 7-8 mil ,
as ever , tho' , guidance looms large , as does a word on newly signed contracts ..
other factors ... bond rally going on , market is correcting(or rotating) and insts are raising some
cash .. no big deals here ... g
if you had bought in @ 26 , your yield would be close to 7% ... how are you going to beat that ??? why sell ?
the div is only going higher and over time , so will pps ...
keep getting hyped up on daily or even monthly fluctuations .... up and down motion should give you pleasure ,eh ?
aside from game chips and a few products for Apple , IBM only ever made chips for themselves .. .now
they don't need so many and what they do need could easily be bought from somebody else.
that was to build the fab , didn't put much in after that .. major impetus for starting that plant
was contracts to build games chips for the big three ..
fact is IBM has not done too well with partnerships ... to wit: the West Campus .. IBM spent
2 or 3 years trying get a consortium together .. .prime project was Xray litho ... they couldn't
get anybody and had to move on the thing itself ... 30 years ago they couldn't partner
with anyone to build phone switches , then bought ROLM and gutted it , the also
effectively owned MCI (held their bonds) , they almost gutted that and NEVER EVER
were able to penetrate the phone chip market ...
IBM's long suit has been materials ... remember C4 ? IBM has always had a wide
moat with any of it's endeavors , today , it's different , the old model is done , IBM has
been exiting hardware since 1986 , but the big diff today is that the next phase already
has very very stiff competition .. it's going to be tough , they might just need another
LG to shake things up ... they'll get there , but there could be some scars along the
way .. i will continue to watch ... g
