My question is, when they were investing for the retirement of millions of people, WHY IN THE WORLD DID THEY INVEST IN HEDGE FUNDS TO BEGIN WITH.
WITH THEIR EXHORBERANT FEES.
WITH THEIR LACKLUSTER PERFORMNACE.
WITH THEIR HIGH RISK.
WITH THEIR OVERPAID MANAGEMENT.
The question remains, why are the people who decided to invest retirement money for Californians still in charge of the plan ?
does anyone think for a split second that any initial interest rate hike is going to be significant ?
I'd be surprised if we go up 3% in 3 years.
esp with the jobs situation, and more importantly, the lack of jobs inflation.
All the money we spent on the appeal has been flushed down the drain, and wasted.
I saw him grabbing papelbons jersey.
I think the Comcast announcers should remind everyone of this.
for some reason , Comcast doesn't like to show bad calls on pitches.
other teams do.
other teams seem to get more calls.
if Comcast would have shown 1 bad call against ryan howard early in the season, he'd be hiting at .280 right now, instead of .230.
Ryan gets ripped off almost every night.
he's a big man. but they call strikes at his letters, and outside the pate
and that's wrong.
It sounds like a good idea.
Industry has problems with capacity, esp with movies and gaming and industrial downloads.
Now we have IDCC, who has technology to filter out indiscernable digital info, and reduce the amount of info needed to show video with quality.
They said up to a 60% savings.
WHat could be better.
IDCC with more patents.
So we see IDCC presented in Amsterdam, a place where its nice for management to take a trip, and a vacation, and have the travel paid for by IDCC (us).
They sit there, and wait for vendors to show up in their little booth, down near the mens room.
Now I beseech you. Assuming a 60% reduction is great (do other companies have technology to save more bandwidth, like maybe 90% ?), then why do we need to dog and pony this.
Why isn't IDCC on the horn with Netflix, hulu, Comcast, AT & T, the internet gaming providers, or anyone else who could profit from this.
I'll tell you why.
Because IDCC modus operandi is to have a technology, hype as the greatest thing since the napkin, partner with a small nobody company, and hold out on licensing it to the big boys.
It might be great technology.
It might be yet ANOTHER SMOKESCREEN, from a company pinching pennies on R&D.
Like the thumbprint, which is good technology, but apple is using someone elses technology.
Why sign with us, when we embarrass them on cnbc during the Samsung interview.
Lets say it is great.
DO we wait 8 years, and spend 300 million trying to get full value, or do we license now, get less than a perfect amount, but get it used by the big boys, get it an industry standard, and get everyone to use it, then partner with the big boys to further develop it.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN ?
IDCC is small for a reason. It thinks small. It acts small. It delivers small. It still thinks its a cult company.
But its not. And with their thinking, it will become a cult company again.
Not everything is small about IDCC.
They give out large stock awards for delivering less than 50% of the market.
cripes he didn't lift a finger while hundreds of thousands of middle east people were slaughtered.
and he did less when 4 people at Benghazi was murdered.
people say he is insightful.
didn't want to rush into things over the last 5 years.
like maybe he was reviewing a lot of tape.
like the tapes of his petite golf swing.
And for rose to say you can compare them shows he is ignorant.
and even if we win the en banc, we'll still see more appeals and delays and the need to be able to pay lawyers even more.
I don't have a lot of confidence in management that can't keep a 3 year prediction for 3 months.
whatever happens, doesn't goodell deserve the benefit of the doubt, until he is convicted ?
Do you think for a second rice told him he knocked her out ?
"I swatted her once. Then she ran up into my face. I hit her to defend myself. Then I helped her off the elevator"
That's why he got 2 games.
Now had he said the truth " I slapped her pretty hard. She got mad, and ran up to me. Then I clobbered her, and knocker her out. She was out cold. I had to drag her off the elevator", I'm sure goodell would have given him a stiffer punishment.
The complainers from the investors.
This downturn will put hair on your chest.
But if oil keeps dropping, it might also rip that hair off.
Hang in there.
We are weeks away from construction completion.
My next buy will be near 5.50, if we go that low.
And while we wait, think about this.
Russia is selling China 8 billion in nat gas.
When that pipeline starts pumping, unless they've drilled a ton of wells, that gas will be diverted from somewhere else, like Europe.
I think there will be plans in place for the U.S, Canada, and mexico, to replace that diverted gas.
And pgh will enjoy higher nat gas prices, down the road.
Not to mention how nat gas inventories will be at their lowest levels in 8 years when this heating season starts.
He joins Joseph Re, who was part of the team that lost the appeal.
I hope he's better than Re.
IDCC is not a patent troll.
IDCC's only flaw is that its management sucks, and its core cult shareholders embrace it, regardless how well or how poorly it does.
A 134,000 bonus.
Maybe a signing bonus.
Maybe a management bonus.
Either way, you can be the maytag repairman, and sit around waiting to do deals, and still get richly rewarded by IDCC.
Dear IDCC and Wall Street. I think it stinks when you give shares at zero cost.
There is little incentive to improve the company if a person reaps a huge reward, with no stock price rise.
All management awards of shares should be at the price per share the day the shares are issued.
That way, management would have the same desire as shareholders, to get the value of the stock up, and they wouldn't be rewarded for mediocrity or failure.
Fellow shareholders, OPEN YOUR EYES.
Do they demand vrng get every single last penny, or will they encourage vrng to make deals ?
Most private equity groups suk, and are only a sign that a company is high risk to succeed.
SO its not necessarily a good thing to see them own this many shares.
SO when I get an obamacare certified plan, i'll be paying for family planning advice, sex changes, abortions, and a whole lot of things that I really don't care to help pay for. I'm pretty sure when I get to the pearly gates , He won't judge me for what I was forced to pay. You pay your taxes to Rome and to ......
For several years, Visa has been blocking attempts to surrender Visa class B shares owned by Advanta.
These shares were offered, so that retired teachers, who invested in Advanta redi notes and investment notes, could at least get their investment back. These teachers had invested in Advanta over the years, from when Advanta was an S & L started by a group of teachers, for teachers. Its nice to see Visa do the right thing for all the people who stood to lose money.
proceedings over the last 20 years.
Can you imagine how, when it was still unknown what our potential was, how exciting it was, to track cases.
Especially when we had better lawyers, which actually won cases.
And then later, when IDCC didn't feel like renewing several of its better customers, and then the court cases starting rolling in. And tracking several at the same time.
That is exciting.
And then about a year ago, when we were finally given a goal of 800 million a year, recurring.
It doesn't get any better than this.
And then 2 months ago, when it was lowered to 500 to 600 mil.
Can you imagine spending a big part of your life, a wishin and a hopin, and defending anyone who dared talk realism, only to see our potential drop to only a fraction of what it could of been ?
Spending all that time and money, wow. It sounds like IDCC. Who spent 300 million, or more, and over 8 years, trying to get full value.
Yeah, imagine what you could do with all those pacer fees.
And imagine what idcc could do, how many more patents they'd have, or how much more in dividends they could pay, had they not p pd that 300 million down the toilet.
One good thing that could come of this, is if Huawei isn't appealed (unlikely), and if the ITC ever follows the CAFC orders, IDCC wouldn't need to keep all that cash for lawyers.
And then, maybe they can give a big part of it, like 400 million , as a special, one time dividend.
It is after all, our company, and our money.
That 2 cents they skim off the top of every stinking share traded, because of info illegally given to the flash boys from GS, could cost that pension plan millions over the year, each and every year.
If I were that pension plan, I'd demand, whether legal or not, that GS not disclose to the flash boys any pending trades.
seems like whoever was supplying them was giving them faulty product.
Unless the 30 computers, from the IRS, whose hard drives crashed were all just a coincidence.
i'm sure she sent a ton of them.
