Yes, Google passed on buying Nokia at that time and so did Microsoft. Microsoft had talks and decided not to buy them and see if Elop could turn it into a division worth buying. Go back and look at the phones prior to Microsoft phones and compare them to the IPHONE. Everyone was buying Iphones and Nokia device and services was a sinking ship. They were up for sale but were not aquired. The board would accept an offer from the largest company in the world to reorganzie and consider an aquisition in the future. Why would'nt the board take that. They could not find a buyer and they had clam shell phones. What the hell should the board have done.
What are you saying? Why did you mention those people? I figure anything and everything that cost Nokia any coin is history from here until the sale. I have been at places where these changes happen as most have. It is never smooth and people who are disgruntled or out of their comfort zone make for rocky roads. I hope Nokia does not sit on the cash, but they might.
Yes it does, but I I still have stocks to dump from the dotcom collapse. I am one of the crazy people that held AOL until 2012. So you see I have huge losses that I can sell and it offsets gains. Everyone's tax situation is different. There are people doing this with small amounts of money and they still end up ahead after taxes. If I did not have any losers and an importable tax program I would not do it. I also have a tax program that can download all the trades from the brokers website.
Miss Meyers may be going through mid life crisis. They are throwing up different pages to see what happens and what people do like they did in the early days at Yahoo. Maybe you landed on a good one. I guess you think I was screwing with you with the Windows Ambassador and the bar codes. You said you contacted Nok as a Symbian Ambassador and they switched to Windows and that was it. Funny I tried to make you a Nokia Windows Ambassador right before the buyout and the same thing sort of happened to you again. I was not posting right before the buyout and you were the Nokia Windows Ambassador as I remember it. I guess it happened again.
It is better with Chrome on a W8 machine but still has issues. Melissa is amped up on energy drinks I think. She is doing a job, the content is better overall for Yahoo. The only problem is it the physical site is not working good at all. She has them pushing out websites to the public where they are just throwing them up without testing. They are testing them live and I do not think she or anyone else there is testing W8 browsers. I saw multiple changes yesterday and am losing patience with it.
I do place my own trades on line. I meant online through a brokerage. I only place limit trades and constantly put changes in. I did not do that with Nokia prior however. I just put it in and went long. Sold a few times and bought back in lower. It is just the current trading in Nok seems to be rising 15-20 cents a day and back and forth like a rolling stock. I see the short interest as 14 days on a paid site. The analyst are saying this can continue for 30 days. Seems hard to believe. If so I will try the rolling stock play. Higher highs over 5.60 I would not play the games any more.
Yea they do but I am more worried about the mm's. I have tried to do that buy 15 cent up and sell and do it over and over. Eventually the mm's get mad or jealous I do not know. I was told that by the broker I use and they said it ticks them off when a retail customer is doing that and they could put in a floor complaint or something like that. I never followed up with it. If I do it for several days they start screwing with filling the orders. I also have bought two companies like Sierra Wireless & Novatel because I did not know which would be taken out. It is good to hedge even if you are a small trader in my opinion.
I do not or am not qualified to advise people what to do. In my opinion you only have a week or so to get into Microsoft. There are MAJOR sparks coming. MAJOR not minor. If you can get the stock between 28-30 good for you. Once XBOX one hits it may be too late to hope for that price. I believe I heard yesterday that all the XBOX Ones are already sold out. The Best Buy scene is going to probably tick some people off here. They had no Nok phone before and now that they have MSFT phones the plans are changing I believe from the planning for the store soon. I know that is going to get to people here. The next thing that might tick people off here is that old tablet rumor. Devices is part of Microsoft. Does anyone really expect Nok to shell out THEIR OWN money to make a large amount of tablets. Think about it. You sell your car to someone who is coming back for it in a few months. Are you going to put 4 new tires, struts and by spare parts for the new buyer? I will believe it when I see a large amount of tablets made. How can that happen?
They say this stock short covering will continue for 30 days. That sounds unbeleivable to me, but the people saying that know more than I do. If I buy one day and wait for a 15-25 cent move up the next day and sell and repeat ....... If it goes on like this for 30 days that is the rolling stock situation. It may roll when it hits 5.60 though. Nokia still has to go through earnings you know. Anyone worried about holding through that? That would be the only problem in the near future. Everything else would make it go up. The Indian Tax type of issues would all be on Microsoft. What catalyst other than earnings could send it to the 3's? I cannot think of anything that would do it. It seems like it is a trade until this short covering settles and then it moves higher on it's own. Just my opinion. It is a big risk because the mm's have to be worn out as hell and fatigued.
The day after Microsoft buys Nok they put out a statement that they are not interested in buying a mobile phone co. They were the ones that initially threatened Microsoft with a Nok buyout. It was around the time of the US accusing the Chinese Army. Sounds like that company is on Momo's level to me. There are only going to be the three horseman: Goog, Msft & AAPL from here to the end of our lifetimes. Nok is a dying breed. You saw the last of the phone underdogs I beleive. I am not counting Black Berry. I know about their patents and customers. I suppose that could be a spec that you might make a dollar or two but it is not cheap.
You would have to research what intellectual property is. Patents also for that matter. They were already paying them more than the deal. If the deal is 2 billion for 10 years of patents Microsoft would have paid that to Nokia with this year and 2014. So you see it does not make any sense when you where already reciving monies for patents and intellectual property to accept the same amount of monies for 10 years that you were getting within 2 years. The 5 billion is different and I guess you know what that is for. The 2 billion is a joke if it covers 10 years. You cannot deny that even the release of the 1020 which will spawn a new era in phone is worth more than 2 billion for 10 years. Maybe 10 billion but 2 is just not within the industry standards. If you asked an attorney they may say the value of IP is a billion at most. However, Nokia has a war chest. I mean a war chest like few other companies on earth. It takes to much time to go through the patents applications they file in 1 week. It would take a full time job to do it. Everyone know that 2 billion for 10 years is low. Thisnumbe for this buyout was 11-13 billion previously if I remember correct. How it ended up at 7 billion in a hurry is beyond me. It makes me wonder what is going on and if the stock on the phone is so low now the next earinings that everyone has forgotten are going to miss. The 11 billion offer was from Microsoft in the past I think and Nokia did not take it. Why did they take 7 billion now? Are they completely out of cash to contiue making phones? Everyone says they have cash. I guess free cash flow is different than monies you are supposed to get from Siemmens eventually. I still think the number of phones Nokia has sold this quater is much higher than previously. Unless I have been completely dupped, the numbers will be good.
No, don't think I ever was mad at you. This might be an irreplaceable moment in life. Not sure there will ever be another mobile comeback story to get behind. A small stock so many followed, doubted and became fans of. Microsoft is really getting some reactions overseas in some of these areas to this deal. Turns out Nokia fans overseas like Nokia a heck of a lot more than Microsoft. It is harder to have the same interaction on boards like this when you have a business like NSN. Kind of a boring business and no one here really even understand what they do. So I do not know how active this board will be. Maybe like Erricsons or someone like that where there are 8 or 9 people total on the message. Nope not really mad at anyone because like I said there will probably never be another Nok to follow. Peace.
It is gone and how I ended up into the Yahoo test software I do not know. It was call Yahoo message board ads. It had a like and dislike button next to every ad. Unbearable if they go with that layout. I had to view ads prior to seeing the message. If they try that it will never work. It is a free board, so she may be thinking about making you view an ad message every time you read a board.
I think it is a new ad revenue thing but it is clunky on chrome also. I will try Firefox on w7 but they are so similar to Chrome it is odd. Thanks. Works perfect on windows 8 phone.
Thanks. I kind of meant with the ads. When I click on a post ads pop up and sometimes the clicks on the posts do not work. They are pushing through some advertising and it had like and dislike buttons. I though it was a test unless I am running in debug mode. No one will use this site if it turns out like what I have seen today.
Yes, I made money on Nokia and did take profits on the open. I buy and sell often and could not risk the money I had into it. When I heard that the short covering may continue for 30 days it was tempting but I did sell.
I agree with you on here and there is already a bidding battle with Microsoft and Apple for HERE. I think you said Here may be more valuable. Apple is using Here in the very near future as far as I know. It has already been agreed to. I know there was another map Microsoft has been looking into and things like Four Square are similar to some things Nokia is doing. Microsoft could not get HERE this time. I guess Nokia is probably holding that for a bidding war.
The only thing that would turn me off to Nokia right now if there are gross physical stock shortages 60 days prior to now and in the next months. Here, NSN & the patents make Nokia pretty strong. I will be buying this up and down frenzy of 14-25 cent moves per day selling buying selling repeatedly if it keeps up.
Nokia looks interesting for long term money if they can keep the trust of the investors.
When the public finds out if Nokia will contiue to be paid by Microsoft it will be clearer. If they do receive continuous income in addition to the deal I would be a big long buyer.
There are more companies using HERE than people realize. That is a definite keeper. Atleast they kept Here.
If they keep Here, NSN and recieve yearly revenue from Microsoft it is a buy.
They are making live changes today and it has problems with Windows 8. I call them issues. I know it is new ads but it does not run properly.
