The main loss if the U.S. credibility. That will result in war. I think urban lives in a dream world. Putin had openly promised to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and next thing he did is invade. Today they started invading the mainland. Tomorrow, well I'm pretty sure Putin sees an opportunity to tell the world that he will take military action and the U.S. won't (as promised by the U.S.). The fact is no one knows. He may continue to surprise with other former soviet countries -- cause "they belong to Russia after all", then Europe, etc... He knows the U.S. (as least for the next 2 years) won't use it's military or anyone else's. Now, I keep on hearing the stupid argument about nuclear war with Russia -- not by you. That's just way too dumb. No one is asking to start a nuclear war. Did Russia start a nuclear war? NO. The U.S. and/or NATO need to make a military presence on the ground so that the "walk in and takeover without resistance" ends. I think Putin will only stop when he sees a countering military capable to beat Russia. Play the south korea card and they won't invade anywhere the U.S. or NATO has troops. establish and increase the missile defense system in Poland and other countries public and secret. Crank up some real economic sanctions that crashes Russia's economy. All of that won't start a war unless Putin wants to start one -- but he won't. Likelihood he will back down only then, after he is shown a hammer. One thing is for sure, weakness won't work with him. Weakness induces war.
You are wrong. You said: "America and it's allies have done their fair share of imperialistic actions this past decade". Please tell us when was the last time the U.S. tried annex part or a whole other country after taking military control of it and forcing a referendum to annex?
I think you are also missing the biggest point here. If you have a problem with someone and he pushes you and if you warn them not to push you again or else -- but make sure to tell him clearly that you won't push him back. Then the guy pushes you again to challenge you and to openly show you his disrespect, knowing that you won't push him back and that whatever you do won't cause to stop from pushing again. And that's the main point you are missing. I know this is not street deal, but the fact remains that the U.S. credibility in front of the world is dripping faster than the NOK pps -- unfortunately -- and that absolutely outshines the theoretical fairness. That is, let's make pretend the whole Ukraine should belong to Russia; that's not the point! Russia taking over would've been fine if the U.S. would've openly agreed with that all along. But no, the U.S. is getting disrespectfully pushed back after it openly stated that annexing Crimea and/or Ukraine is wrong and illegal. That diminished credibility will undoubtedly be the worst thing to come out from all this. That far lower trust for the U.S.'s word will induce the opposite of what the U.S. supposedly wants. It will induce conflict and war as other "powers" attempt fill the gap, and as competing countries such as India-Pakistan feel the need to up the arms race cause no one cares if they destroy each other anymore. Think of North Korea alone. Would kim jong un feel more seriously about "testing" another missile that may land in Seoul or Tokyo without fearing a full scale war -- at least not one with the U.S., it's main deterrent?
Weakness means war. I know it doesn't look like that on its face
Again, the tax crooks dont care about job losses. Indians dont consider themselves worthy to care for each other. Screwing each other in order to maje it a day is part of life. Theyll only panic when softy and other point out the nokia tax fiasco as the reason they avoid or withdraw investmenting in the country
You are assuming india bankruptcy laws are like in the US. They can still put people in jail and cause chaos. They dont care about the law if you have noticed. Nok just has to stick to its guns and abandon no matter the cost, thats the cheapest choice. They have to leave even if they ban nokia phones -- who cares. I dont think softy would care either. They are not nokia and india would be stupid to ban and pick a fight with softy just cause they hate nokia. So softy may rebrand and not be banned and for all thise phone maniacs: NOKIA IS NO LONGER IN THE PHONE BUSINESS SO STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT
The individuals who will benefit from the new tax income could careless about what business stays or leaves or what jobs are lost. There is no accountability in India, no outcry. Every #$%$ just doing anything to make a penny for themselves and that's the fair game overthere. Others will suffer the consequences, so what? They'll be rich for life -- or so that's how they really look at life
The cost will be must less???? really??? wow. Obviously you are missing the main problem here. India will take any $$$ now and sooner or later will come up with further random tax compliance violations. Is it cheaper for NOK to pay 300 here there and 500 mill there?
Nokia can't possible stay in the uncertainty of India. Even if they had reached a deal, who is to say that some bureaucrat won't pull some compliance theory out of his a_s..s tomorrow again?
Best deal is to get out and create -- and even promote -- a precedence of punishing a country that manipulates tax laws

Its never good when a government adjusts and executes their own version of a law effectively changing the law on the fly
Doesnt make any sense Christy. No longer a fan of his
It's like the psychological toll of their half-conviction is more costly than the rewards of going long without second guessing.
Im in all the way. I've made my decision and sticking with it
Is not their fault you don't read their PR's. Per Nov 7 PR: "We look forward to reporting top-line data from the pivotal study toward the end of Q1 2014"
