NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Apple Inc. AAPL +3.78% said Monday it sold nine million new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones in the first weekend of sales. The initial supply of iPhone 5S models was sold out in the three-day period starting Friday, said Chief Executive Tim Cook in a statement. "This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales," said Cook. Apple also said more than 200 million devices are running the new iOS 7 operating system.
