Don't be so defensive roundhouse_c. Nothing wrong with taking a profit. But Mr. Shannon is an officer of the company and he sold during the quiet period. Your not! All the Semiconductor firms I worked for would not let Directors and above trade in anyway the company stock except for 6 weeks in the middle of quarter. I bet you can't find a single other sale or buy of stock by an officer of a semiconductor company one week before the end of quarter.
FYI, I don't suppose that Nvidia's quarterly results will be bad, I think he sensed the market was due for a significant correction so he sold options that would expire in 2015. He always had had an uncanny ability to call the top.
But seriously one week before the end of the quarter?
I do believe this is a first.....selling shares during the quiet period leading up to earnings. Can't find another example of an insider sales within one months of earnings. Anybody else find any.

Sold 8,600 shares on 1/2/15 @ $20.26
Sold 21,400 shares on 1/21/15 @ $20.26
Sold 10,000 shares on 1/23/15 @ $20.60
1) Highest Short Interest I can Remember On Nvidia. Really
2) Market Correction Not Done? Who knows, I certainly don't.
3) China Official PMI goes negative to 49.8, lowest in two years. just out.
All in all in my opinion Nvidia PPS would be close to a buy price except for the above. Geuss I will just wait and see. After all a double from $17 - $18 is a lot less risky from $19.
Note: Nvidia right now is trading with the market...Market goes up Nvidia goes up, Market goes down Nvidia goes down. I guess it's in way too many ETF's to avoid it, especially without any news of any kind.
Maybe I can catch the exact bottom......Wish me Luck....LOL
Barrons Heard Your Plaintive PLea!
Sorry couldn't resist....LOL
Nvidia's PPS is getting close I admit. Perhaps the ,arket selloff will continue Monday and Tuesday next week and we can get another $0.50 0ff the price. Tons of shorts so it just might happen.
1) Continued market share in discrete Gamer GPU's. Over 70% market share and approaching 80% in 2015. AMD is near complete exhaustion as a competitor.
2) Tesla in Big Data and HPC. Every Big Iron vendor in the world is selling Tesla now. Growing 50% a year.
3) Nvidia Grid initiative for VDI deployment in enterprise.
4 Steady single digit growth of Quadro for pro graphics. Note: Apple deploying AMD's firepro probably saved AMD for another 12 months.
5) Auto a long and sure haul.
1) Headcount - time to cut somepeople who lead the failed initiatives. We all know where they are---modem and smartphones.
I will try this weekend but as everyone knows I am a trader so I will have to include the negatives. I have watched and traded this stock since 2009. It can be a heart breaker but I must admit that the potential for a double or triple is there. Not currently invested, but Nvidia is approaching my buy price
I noticed today that Qualcomm admitted that Samsung was not going to use their Snapdragon 810 in their latest and greatest Galaxy 6 phone. So I got a very weird thought which was Samsung knew that Qualcomm was using Nvidia Patents in there Adreno GPU. After all Samsung admitted that it was their suppliers problem. But they still want to sell phones in the US so they went with there own CPU and probably Imagination VR GPU's same as Apple.
Now when Nvidia, Samsung, and Qualcomm go to trial at the ITC in June, Samsung can keep importing Galaxy 6's into the US. Then a month are so later.....Samsung suit against Nvidia comes to trial....and Nvidia may not be able to import their discrete GPU's into the US.
I'am sure you noticed as I did that Qualcomm has never made a public statement about the suit.
Sure you say Imagination infringes but are you sure........it's completely different I believe. Thought the Adreno was a slam dunk lawsuit...but perhaps Sammy pulled a fast one on Nvidia as they did on Rambus and even the great God almighty Apple.
Weird I know.
"Also, whoever said it was right, nvda's price should get a huge boost if and when Jensen cleans out of all the unneeded Tegra overhead. But we know he would never do it"
TXN says we give up in smartphones and has a layoff substantial too...yes Nvidia hired most of them, TXN refocus on embedded. Now embedded revenue is above what it was and margins in the business are much higher. And Nvidia?
Nvidia doesn't say they gave up...but they just did as everyone knows. Yet no layoffs, just re#$%$ignments And don't get me started on the chipset business lost 875M a year in revenue and never a layoff.
I guess Jensen Huang as CEO has an unbelievable need to be loved by his employees. His top executive managers could give a rats #$%$. They now have Restricted stocks units....basis price of 0. Who gives a squat I'm sure they think. Let the Big Guy be the Fall guy. Yes it ain't going to happen........but just think if it did how as a long term investor like you would profit.
In the mean time, Nvidia is the perfect stock to trade for a couple of bucks.....or write those calls for income as you wait for Nirvana that never comes.
PS. Approaching a buy price at $19.....but I am not sure with this correction in the market playing out.
Nvidia PPS dropped due to MSFT windows sales....yes people still think of Nvidia as just an add in chip for PC's company that is going away. Now QCOM has hiccops in smartphones, so Nvidia's shares should get hit tomorrow because a lot of people know about how Nvidia made a huge investment in smartphone processors, but isn't actually selling into that market anymore. It's almost laughable how poorly Nvidia PR has positioned the company's image.
Been reading up on Mobileye ADS systems for cars. Everyone is gushing over the market. Hello....Nvidia is in that market big time....but Mobileye owns the market and gets this they are using turn of the century chip mfg node of .18 micron to produce their chip. What in the world gives. I also just read an article detailing the 10 best investments for driver less cars. Mobileye was one of 7 chip mfgs with Nvidia no where mentioned even though the article said Audi was leading all other car manufacturers in driver less cars. Still laughing about no mention of Nvidia. Thought I saw that Audi car at CES with Nvidia X1 PX computer in the trunck the size of a kid's lunch box.
Yes someday Mslans,WS will get it, but it looks like to me Nvidia is just not trying to hard or just not at all. Wish I didn't think that way. But it does give everybody time to contemplate when to purchase shares in our current market correction.
"But what's holding it back still? Any ideas? Anything to do with the convertible debt? Or stock buyback? Baffles me…
Rather than asking such a question, perhaps you might consider sitting down and writing 3 or 4 paragraphs as to why you believe so much in Nvidia?
I would suggest that you have no hook to hang your story on. Take MSFT the stock went from low 30's to the mid 40's based solely on the new CEO cutting costs and laying off old timers. Now the earnings are in and it drops 8% but still 42% above where it was. Do you think Nvidia will do that....i.e. layoffs....no I suppose not. OK what new initiative do they have? I'm all ears!
In the meantime...nothing wrong with buying around $19 and selling around $21. Or if you prefer writing call options every quarter as most of the long term Nvidia bulls do that post here.
Of Course Not.....will they deliver someone else's cure for cancer to the tumor. A distinct possibility. Bind is using Chemistry to deliver cancer causing killing agents to the tumor, without the adverse affects to healthly cells.
Think about it, There are millions of cancer killing chemicals....but alas they kill the healthy cells and the patient dies. But just what if the chemical is delivered to the cancer and by passes the healthy cells. That's what's Bind Therapeutics is all about.
Big Pharma is kicking the tires.....will see as it goes.

I have been reading the phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trial results of other cancer drugs approved by the FDA for a while now. As a whole they are not overwhelmingly positive to say the least and no better than Bind-014. It seems just about anything gets approved when relatively safe, some positive results, especially when the drug fights cancers where no other drugs are available. Hence Bind-014 for Non Small Cell Tumors with KRAS mutations is a very big deal
One other very positive thing about BIND-014 is it is a special formulation of docetaxel which means BIND can apply under the 505b2 application process which is a much shorter and a much cheaper process for FDA approval, because they can use all published literature on docetaxel in their application.
