My 1,600 AbbVie shares were acquired in a 1981 purchase of 50 shares of Abbott Laboratories. The cost basis is $0.92.

I figure, using Friday’s closing price ($54.91), that I am going to have to come up with $19,824.08 to cover my federal and state capital gains tax on the inversion which is 22.6% of the value of my Abbvie shares. If I sell New AbbVie shares to come up with the cash I will also be out the present value of $606.53/year of dividends.

Even if it works out, it’s going to be a while before I’m even on this…

There’s a tax treaty with no UK withholding on the dividend. Withholding on my DEO dividends stopped years ago.
