  • revenues higher than expected - our production cost is was 15.72/ton - should translate to higher than expected earnings.
    2014 earnings estimate was 2.96 - we reported 3.00 diluted, 3.09 basic.
can someone help me out here on what caused earnings below estimates?

that trade was probably just a leftover from early in day.
emes provided 2015 distribution guidance in addition to distribution info, that put a damper on todays trade.
although imo, not sure what investors were expecting - the stock has been cut in half so I would think that an adjustment to the expected dividend was priced in.

dearbear6 - that's a good question. here is excerpt from jan 14 csx conference call transcript referencing the decrease in fuel surcharge revenues that comes to csx with lower oil/fuel pricing.

--- Yes we do think we have a fuel surcharge mechanism that is effective. It's not a profit driver but it makes us neutral to fuel price volatility. There are periods such as when the prices decline that we get the lag benefit which we saw here in the fourth quarter and likewise when fuel rises our fuel surcharge mechanism lags a little bit. So we have a little bit of detriment there. But overall the fuel surcharge is working well and we think that we are neutral to any sort of price volatility with the exception of the lag effect. ---

The lower price of fuel is a neutral for csx but saves customer. I think this saving to HCLPs sand price #$%$ will go a long way to helping HCLP get to their part in the 20 pct reduction in service costs that are being asked for by the E&P companies.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • experts , smekperts, almost nobody was predicting this drop in oil.
even with increase in fracking making US oil production over 9m barrels, nobody could deduce that there could be more supply than anticipated?
even with nat gas glut produced right here in the same wells nobody could put 2 and 2 together?
even with Europe and their slowing economies, nobody could anticipate a slow down in demand.
even with chinas growth slowing, nobody could put 2 and 2 together.
now we here are and no Einstein can figure this out.
there are literally hundreds if not thousands of competing theories!!!
I don't trust anybody to know what the hell the next 6 months will bring.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

  • $50 oil is flushed.
imo-the faster the dump, the quicker the recovery.

    Sentiment: Strong Buy
