NORTHBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 17 (dbusiness) -- An
expansion of MOCONs service business prompted the company
to supply a larger facility for its Lab Connections
    subsidiary.

Brooklyn Park, Minn.-based MOCON (Nasdaq: MOCO), formerly
Modern Controls Inc., purchased Lab Connections last
    winter.

    MOCON manufactures and sells instruments
that test plastic and other packaging materials to
measure their effects on products. For example, the
company can determine if a seal allows a fragrance to
escape, if a plastic leaches chemicals into food or if a
    package allows contaminants to escape.

POMPANO BEACH, FLA, Aug. 17 (dbusiness) Visual
Data Corp. kept up its torrid growth rate in the third
quarter ended June 30, growing revenues nearly four
    fold.

Losses also more than doubled, but were diluted on a per
share basis because of the companys recent secondary
stock offering. The company (Nasdaq: VDAT)lost $1.8
million, or 29 cents a share, compared with losses of
$810,283, or 25 cents per share, last year.

  • STATESVILLE, N.C., Aug. 17 (dbusiness) Kewaunee
Scientific reported first quarter net earnings of $904, 000,
or 37 cents a diluted share, for the first quarter
this year compared with $766,000, or 31 cents a
diluted share, in the same quarter last year.

Management attributed the 18 percent gain to a strong market
for its laboratory and computer furniture, and a
one-time gain collected from settling a lawsuit.

Sales increased two percent to $20 million compared
with $19.6 million in same period last year. The
company also benefited from collecting $86,000, or four
cents a diluted share, from settling a lawsuit in the
    quarter.

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 16 (dbusiness) Epimmunes halt
in production of its anti-inflammatory product and

    quarter.

For the quarter, Epimmune (Nasdaq: EPMN) reported a
net loss of $900,000, or 17 cents per share, compared
with a net loss of $5.2 million, or $1.11 per share,
for the second quarter 1998. Revenue held steady at

    ATLANTA, Aug. 16 (dbusiness)--MAPICS Inc.
(NASDAQ: MAPX) is making the best of a slow market,
announcing today the expansion of an existing relationship
with Fleetwood Folding Trailers, a manufacturer of
    recreational vehicles

    . MAPICS, which provides
enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to mid-sized
manufacturers, will integrate its new e-commerce and client
server applications with Fleetwood's existing ERP
system. ERP software links together the financial, human

in the quarter ending June 30, compared to $32
million during the same period last year.
