Detroit was a wreck long before Snyder came along. The riots back in the 60's, gang violence and crooked city government pretty much guaranteed that anyone that could move out did move out. Property values are now so cheap that you can literally buy a whole neighborhood for what you'd pay for a nice house in the suburbs 10 miles away. The city is offering abandoned houses for a dollar but no one wants them because the taxes are so high and the property has to be brought up to Detroit's stringent building codes. If you do try to renovate a house your stuff gets stolen when you leave for the night. We've lived outside Detroit for over 50 years now and have seen it go from a pretty nice city to a disaster area and it was under democrat mayors almost the whole time. Detroiters wrecked Detroit, not the republicans.
