Enough cash to keep them thru 2016 and Q315 looks to be VERY busy with data results. Very optimistic here!

I still say you're missing the BIG PICTURE if you're trading this short term for nickels and dimes. This has significant appreciation written all over it. The signs couldn't be more clear. Be patient, buy on the dips, and hold.

    Cheers to fellow Longs,

  • OK so 2014 turned out to be a disappointing year - but that only sets the stage for a strong comeback in 2015. We have strong management, a dividend, a low P/E and continued demand for quality rail cars that haul more than just oil from N Dakota and Canadian tar sands. There is tank car retrofitting work ahead, a final resolution of the guard rail distraction, and a cash cow lease fleet that undergirds an already strong cash flow.

Cheers to fellow Longs. Happy New Year!

Agreed Amon. What is needed here is patience and time. Peabody is the largest and strongest publicly owned coal company in the world and would therefore be among the safest to own within the sector and likely the most strongly to recover. Others can gamble on ANR or ACI but my pick is BTU. It won't be overnight, but it will recover. Give it 6-12 months, minimum.

Cheers to you and fellow Longs,

Rezoom - When it comes to the equities markets, the ones most sure are usually the ones most wrong. Where did you say NVAX was going to be trading at year end 2014?

Don't judge others for what they consider to be best actions.

    Just sayin.

In a recent piece on GATX they state:

A major development at GATX during the to-be-reported quarter was Trinity Industries Inc.’s (TRN) announcement to deliver 8,950 cars to GATX. This defies concerns that the decline in crude prices will lead to a fall in tank-car orders.

Exactly. It isn't as if crude production is going to come to a screeching halt in N America, but the equities markets are treating TRN as if that's the only business they're engaged in. Maddening but there it is ....

    Cheers to fellow Longs,

You obviously cannot read then. Go over the press release again.

  • And forget about momentum indicators, accumulation/distribution ratios, sentiment indicators, options activity, short-term moving averages, candlesticks, triple-witching, Yahoo message board advice, or where the shares will trade in 20 minutes.

The really big moves in NVAX will occur before you’re able to process or react to any of that.

The SP is covering ground it's covered in the recent year, many times, well-trodden ground. What we need is significant and genuine NEWS to lift the shares past this trench, to $7 and beyond. But trading games, options noise and bull/bear calls aren't going to do it.

  • Oh boy. A part of me wishes this doesn't go through ... but as shareholders we have to go with management, otherwise we wouldn't (and shouldn't) be invested here ...

Happy New Year to you too history, ford, and fellow Longs. As SP % change YTD figures are now reset, I'm optimistic for BTU prospects for 2015 ... The miserable stats for 2014 are now behind us.

If NG supplies can tighten a bit, the EPA ease up a bit and a conservative Congress help a little, we ought to enjoy a strong year.

    Upward and Onward!

Right on 88. While tempting to swing trade while holding a core position, like you I'd never want to guess where this share price may be day to day. Too many positives.

...but can't explain the share price weakness. Railcar / lessor business running on all cylinders, huge backlog, orders continuing to come in for 2015 ... barge business strong due to record crop levels ... management NOT concerned about current crude pricing because they believe fracking / oil & gas production in N America is in a long-term upward trend.

Apparently litigation has The Street spooked. That's all I can figure.

That being said, I added in the 34's.

Don't be confused. Look at the trading volume. It's mostly noise today. When the big news hits, you'll see tens of millions of shares traded ...

Bernie - It's often been said that one of the hardest things for an investor to do is nothing. No trading. No frantic buying and selling. I've been in the market for 25 years and that lesson comes home time after time. Identify an undervalued company with strong management in an out-of-favor sector, buy a modest position, be patient and WAIT.

Cheers to you and fellow MTG Longs,

Sure History! My conjecture is that there's been far more communication among coal and resource company CEO's in recent months than we're probably aware of. I'm surprised the rumor mill has waited this long to come alive. Borrowed money is still extremely cheap, bond markets are healthy, and coal as a vital and necessary fuel source isn't going away anytime soon.

  • Great company but is it a great stock? Yes, I know ... Patience ... Yes I get it. But in a year's time with extraordinary news on many fronts, the share price is essentially unchanged.

Rez - How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Who knows what a potential buy-out could bring? Why with all the admittedly great news this year are we still struggling to secure $6?

OK I'll make a guess ... $15 ... nearly 3x current market value ... and I'll be very happy with that. Institutions and BP know about NVAX and have priced in take-out potential accordingly.

Strongest Oil stock on the board

    by eyr7a9 Dec 12, 2014 2:08 PM
    joeschmo_4 joeschmo_4 Dec 12, 2014 4:46 PM Flag

Yes, I agree. Seems to be. I've built a nice position the past several days and intend to ride out this oil panic. Twas even able to add in the mid 85s today. We'll see if that holds.

As previously stated, it wouldn't surprise me at all if XOM eventually makes a bid for the company. They need the growth and EOG has the resources and excellent management to boot. I owned XTO and sold it before XOM bought them at a nice premium. I don't intend to make the same mistake twice.

Meanwhile we chew on Rolaids until the oil market tantrum ceases.

Cheers to you and fellow Longs,
    Joe
