tnforst - I chose $40 just as a rough average. They may go as low as $35 or $38 to ensure a successful offering. All in all I'm not worried because fundamentally nothing has changed inside the company or with the drugs they're developing. A stretch of 2 or 3 weeks to digest the shares, once they're on the market. After that, it will be progress on their drug development that should fundamentally move the shares higher.

I'm no expert but that's how I see it.

    Cheers!

    How to assess a company

I noticed the same pattern too, tnforst, regarding our newest resident "expert" - a prime belly-acher of SRPT whether or not they deserve it. So I take his or her comments with a grain of salt as well.

Cheers to you and fellow KITE Longs. It will be interesting to see how this trades Friday.

    Happy Thanksgiving,

forst - This is directly out of the S-1:

We intend to use the net proceeds from this offering for the following purposes: (i) to prepare for the commercialization of our product candidates with the development of our own commercial manufacturing facility; (ii) to continue to expand our internal research and development capabilities to explore the next generation of eACT technology and new product candidates; and (iii) to fund working capital, including general operating expenses. We may also use a portion of the remaining net proceeds to in-license, acquire, or invest in complementary businesses, technologies, products or assets, including additional cancer immunotherapy product candidates.

They're raising $138MM ... Have currently 38MM shares outstanding ... so if the secondary is priced at $40 (hypothetical) that would mean approximately 3.5MM more shares, or about 9-10% dilution.

It would help the erratic nature of the trading somewhat, put more money in the coffers. Perhaps they feel they need it given all the recent accelerated approvals they've gotten.

    Staying tuned,
    Joe

Well that was certainly out of the blue. Short-term, look out below on SP I suppose.

Nothing wrong with MTG dav100 - in fact the management there is more stable and their overall situation less risky than GNW IMO. Both companies have significant appreciation potential.

Thanks j&e - You're a real asset to this board. I think you're exactly right. Based on what you reported there may be an increased chance for M&A activity for those companies engaging in CARs medical technology. Please continue to inform those of us who aren't as well versed in the science.

Congrats Soyllo and fluvaccs for bringing some sense to the board. The SP move today, while welcomed, is nothing but trading noise. The real fireworks will happen when we least expect it and no one here will be able to outrun the stampede to buy shares, whenever that occurs ...

  • KITE valued at $47+ yesterday is on sale at $43 today .... is anything different about the company? No. Has anything changed except short-term players and hedge funds toying with the shares? No.

I added this morning in the $43's. Not a large holding - a modest position.

    Cheers to fellow Longs,

8:00 Central Time. I live in the St. Louis area, and this is very serious business. Don't let anyone say otherwise. I've seen National Guard armored vehicles tonight by the airport leaving with troops and equipment being deployed in advance of the announcement.

Agree dstone - I like your perspective. Let's concentrate on economic reasoning for buying and holding these shares ... there are other internet boards for the kinds of chatter you reference.

IMO coal will make a long, slow upward recovery as world economies improve and higher cost basis mines fall out of production. Two good articles this morning in the WSJ - one referencing hedge funds swooping in on coal company junk bonds anticipating BK's, the other on pressures being put on BNSF to get their coal shipments improved. Both bullish for BTU.

Cheers to you and fellow Longs,

    How to value KITE?

    by justiceandequality Nov 22, 2014 1:18 PM
    joeschmo_4 joeschmo_4 Nov 22, 2014 3:11 PM Flag

Good post j&e and I agree with what I could understand in your post. Placing a value on KITE through conventional means is difficult, no question ... especially by those of us who aren't educated oncologists.

The best approach to take here IMO is to take a modest position, buying on the dips if possible, and then if trading within a tax-deferred account, sell on low-volume spikes. I think the share price is being gamed. There's much volatility on low volume. It's possible to make money here, but as you say there are larger competitors who can either (1) outdo KITE on the science or (2) buy KITE at a significant premium. Plain old holding makes sense here too if income isn't a priority.

About a week ago there were charletons on here with same-day or one-day-old Yahoo #$%$ warning us of all kinds of threats with KITE's science. More evidence that the shares are being gamed.

Cheers to you and fellow Longs,
    Joe

    Interesting comments, History.

I once read that the source of most of the oxygen in our atmosphere is actually algae in the oceans. So probably algae is the predominant source of CO2 absorption as well. A good argument for the health of our oceans. And as for "biased media". Well I respectfully have to rebuke that my friend. There are so many sources of news these days that anyone can get their own biases confirmed and amplified based on where they're getting it from. We all know the sources, and their corresponding criticisms as being too left or too right, but we know they're out there. Witness all the division in our society today. Much of it is because of excessive bias depending on who's reporting "the news".

And as bright as you appear to be, do you realize what percent of revenue the GR business is relative to the entire enterprise? Less than 5%. Meanwhile they can't build rail cars fast enough nor retrofit the ones in service given all the demand. Add to that their lease fleet which is also steadily contributing revenue. Oh, and they also pay a dividend ...

Reasonable assessment rivvir ... as a percentage by value relative to my portfolio MTG is relatively modest, so riding out the bumps isn't too difficult in my case. The earnings potential here, coupled with the possibility of acquiring other MI lines (I wish Genworth would offload their MI line here) makes it a great holding IMO.

I anticipate a dividend before too long, perhaps within a year. That could bolster the share price as well. The policies they're writing now are less risky than before and, as you say, the economy is on a slow and steady mend.

Mostly smooth sailing ahead for this equity, or so I anticipate. Just not getting overly concentrated.

    Cheers!
