The don't even have to issue shares to make that purchase down the road, they could reissue new debt and tap the untapped 500 million Line of Credit as well so its not like they are in any bad shape by paying off the debt at all....

I still hold out hope he changes his mind and uses the $500 million from Niobec sale to pay off the debt without even making a sale, you can always make the sale down the road to do an acquisition if you wanted to as they always have the $500 million line of credit to tap into to make an acquisition even if they had to make the acquisition first and the disposition second. It really doesn't matter they have the CASH today to pay off the debt if they wanted to, and CEO's have many times been known to change their minds, him saying its for acquisitions is totally meanings until A: he actually does it or B: does something that prevents him from changing his mind, until then his words are hollow anyway when it comes to Niobec proceeds anyway. So, to dismiss the Niobec proceeds from being used to do this very thing is super unwise and wouldn't surprise me one bit if that occurred too.

The only reason you would do that is to make an unbelievable awesome acquisition that you just don't have enough cash to pull off otherwise, otherwise that would be a super stupid decision to do it that way...

    IAG from 18.41 to 2.17...

    by thestockmaven Feb 18, 2015 12:27 PM
jonredwards jonredwards Feb 18, 2015 5:01 PM Flag

Your right sir, but IAG is no worse than KGC's performance from its highs. KGC is a bigger miner with more assets, way more debt as well, and yet its fallen from substantially similar stock prices, KGC's all time high is very similar to IAG's and its current price as well. AUY which someone I saw call "Best of Breed" gold miner, they've fallen super badly too from all-time high of roughly 20 which is lower than IAG's all time high and trade only marginally higher but with a lower high that's to be expected and their Best of Breed, please.... Is buying at 6 a lot lower than 18 yes, but buying 3 and under is my policy and I didn't get excited and trade this stock until it broke under 3 bucks, hence why I don't complain about management's performance. I'm not defending management's performance but they are by no means alone compared to other gold miners either and I'm sick of tired of all the bashing they get just because you weren't patient enough to do better, that's your fault not theirs. Stop making them a scapegoat even if their deserving of being so, look yourself in the mirror and reflect. Plus, the historical charts of these stocks show that they are slot machine stocks no matter the management involved, Letwin was never there in the early 2000's when this stock also traded under 3 and it rose to 23 from those levels and now we are back to the stupid prices again. It would not surprise me if we boom again someday to the 20's again and then it would not surprise me if we returned again to the 2's as that's all this stock is, a perpetual 2 and change to 20's and change stock over and over again. Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, you now know the cycle of this stock over 10-15 years time horizon and trade accordingly...This I believe will happen even if they hired me or you as the CEO, the hedge funds are in control and they decide when to buy and when to sell all to hurt the little guy who hasn't figured out the rigged game and they love you blaming the CEO..

perfectly stated, CEO's don't decide the future or path of stocks, the price of gold does, totally outside his control. When Gold is expensive, miners are a sell and are overpriced and should be shorted, all of them, when Gold is cheap, miners are a buy and are underpriced, no different than buying and selling a house, hot market, you want to be a seller, cold market a buyer.... no different there, same principle, always remember that and stop focusing on others if you bought the moon, learn your lesson and never do it again...Buy low, sell high is always the name of the game and not the other way around...

    Why IAG is down today

Agree with you but seriously, what dumb fool wants to waste 500 million on just a portion of a mine (25%), is he really that stupid, are we supposed to believe someone could be that stupid when the AISC are 1,100 and its in expensive USD's. I still stand by what I said before, common sense says that is nothing but the bears doing false rumors to get the stock to fall, just ridiculous...

Anybody with a brain can see IAG has no chance of buying that mine, that is false rumor mill garbage to get the stock to fall. That mine according to your numbers has a 50 year mine life, that's a ton, there's no way IAG has enough cash to afford the mine, no way Jose. Duh....Hopefully, KGC buys it.....

Doesn't matter, sir, even if your wrong and IAG is a sell, you still saved a whole dollar on half your position no matter what, they can't take that performance away from you no matter what. You'll always have that savings locked in even if this company is trash. Even dogs have dead cat bounces too... I really don't see your risk as all that much sorry, Letwin blunders and all....Sure, could we fall under 2 again, sure, but I'd take that risk after saving a buck on half your position as we could just as easily be back over 3 in a couple of months too...

    Premium For IAG

Its also for this reason that in a strong US dollar environment that we are in, the rule of thumb is you invest American when your home currency is so strong so you don't get cheated like you do for investing in foreign companies and you got a strong currency at home. This is why emerging markets and foreign stocks suck so much right now with the strong US dollar and many won't touch non-US companies right now because of it but I do feel this US dollar rally is getting pretty long in the tooth now and at some point we should see the US dollar retreat and world currencies rise back against it which is better for Gold and investors in foreign listings like IAG.

That's not true, GDX has always held IAG for the longest time, also Van Eck too. Plus, an ETF is not held by them but the shareholders who invest in GDX and GDXJ, those are the ones taking the risk not Van Eck, Van Eck is merely buying with the ETF investors funds what miners they think are the best going forward with the most attractive prospects.

Van Eck bought those shares to establish the number one holding of GDXJ as this stock, not for their own personal gain so they have no reason to go short to hedge their risk, its got nothing to do with them unfortunately...
