Fred Kane, executive director of the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation is retiring at the end of November. Kane, 57, has led the foundation since 2006.
“My wife Susan is retiring in January, so we thought it would be a good time for us to pursue personal interests. Plus I have some health issues that were nudging me toward this.”
Kane was diagnosed three years ago with psoriasis, an autoimmune disease that affects the skin. Kane said as a result of the disease, he also has arthritis. He said he and his wife plan to relocate to a warmer climate to help him deal with the disease more effectively.
The Corvallis Public Schools Foundation’s board of director and Corvallis School District officials are working together to hire a replacement for Kane.
The Corvallis Public Schools Foundation was established in 1996 to help support students by matching their educational needs with resources donated by local businesses and community members. It brings in about $700,000 in donations a year. Under Kane’s leadership, the foundation increased its presence and expanded its services to students.
“The district has deeply appreciated Fred’s ability to develop relationships and support community projects,” said Corvallis schools superintendent Dawn Tarzian, in a written statement. “His ability to create partnerships that support the needs of our schools has helped to build a strong Corvallis Public Schools Foundation.”
Kane has been instrumental in helping the school district explore alternative energy by working with the Corvallis High School Green Club to install solar panels on the school building last year. He also worked with the Bonneville Environmental Foundation and Consumers Power, who have committed to the installation of solar power monitoring equipment and learning kiosks at Crescent Valley High and Lincoln Elementary schools.
He seems to be an angry fellow.

Nicky, your subject line is in the form of a statement, yet you have used a question mark.
I bet you use a period when you are actually asking a question.
El Kapitan... Thank you for the reply! If you would answer my question that I asked, it could lead to the answer to your question. All in good time, Weedhopper.
I wonder if you wear some silly nautical hat, and whether you troll gay bars wearing it.
People that "hold on" because they're underwater seem to believe that how much they paid for a stock will influence it's future performance. It won't.
