I'm out at $5.85. Good luck guys. I might get back in if it drops. Or, I might just hang onto the money and wait until the market crashes again, which it always does sooner or later. :)
I had an automatic sell today when it hit $5.85.
For the first time in a great many years, I do not own any ODP stock. That said, you can bet your sas that it will start shooting up like a frigging rocket now. :)
If by some chance it drops, I already have a buy in place. What can I say? I am a gluten for punishment. :)
"synergies and efficiencies"
Have you noticed that they NEVER say when the bottom line is going to be BLACK instead of RED? If anyone is holding this stock thinking they are going to get rich, you need to sell now and move on. I doubt they ever pay a dividend like Staples does, and Office Max did. All we hear is more of the same over and over.
I believe that down the road, the only thing that is going to save O.D. is a merger with Staples and the firing of ALL of O.D. upper management, even the ones who are newly hired. Those guys look out for themselves and everyone else is collateral damage. Nothing has changed in this company since the last leaches were running it. And now, Smith is gone. I don't buy his reason. I think we might start to see some of his shares on the market real soon. Same sthi, different faces.
It doesn't matter what the naysayers have to say, hard copies are NOT going away. I remember back when computers started coming into businesses. People were saying that paper was no longer needed. If anything, computers have caused the use of MORE paper and everything that goes along with it.
I too think that O.D. will eventually merge with Staples.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
I predict that O.D. will see a black bottom line when it is finally bought out by Staples and Staples cleans house at O.D.
Well, how surprising, another loss. :p
If it weren't for the OfficeMax stores, Depot would probably be filing for be bankruptcy. This has to be one of the most ineptly run companies I have ever dealt with. I only pick one or two stocks (every few years) to play with on my own, and this POS had to be one of them. I am tired of hearing about what the future holds. We have been hearing that for years. It seems that the future should be here by now.
Lets see how much they stick into their pockets from this great quarter.
Well Robert, you know my thoughts. I figure they will manipulate the numbers around to a loss. It doesn't matter HOW much money they make or how much MORE it might be compared to earlier quarters. Until they can start showing GREEN on the VERY BOTTOM LINE, their sales numbers doesn't mean anything to me.
It is looking more and more like it is business as usual at O.D. - money and options to management - more K-Y Jelly to the shareholders.
I certainly DO hope that this company turns around and starts to show a little love for the shareholders. I saw some dividends paid at the old Office Max. I can't seem to recall EVER seeing one at O.D. It was all about rewarding the management for a job badly done.
Maybe things will get better. I am close to my target. I don't know if I will ever buy back in at a lower price or not, once I get out.
I figure that if they manage to post a profit this quarter, and it is decent, the price will blow through $6. Whether it will STAY there is another matter all together. As far as the layoffs and such: They have to do that. I hate to see folks lose their jobs, but they can't have two stores right down the road from each other. This is now, and has always been, my preferred company to buy stuff.
If this company could start making money, stop with the huge unearned stock options, salaries, and such, and not looking for every way in the world to declare a loss, the price at today's level, compared to Staples, should be around $9.06. I am still jaded as to what I think of a dividend from ODP. Right now, I just don't think its going to happen in my lifetime. The company has a history of awarding huge stock options and salaries to upper management, and doing nothing for the shareholders. All we can hope for is stock price appreciation from this place. At least it seems to be hanging steady the last several days at least.

If this is the same bunch that was around back in the early part of 2000, you better hide your money and run away as fast as you can. T^hat bunch was nothing more than a group of rip-off artists who lied to their investors all the way down to nothing.
That's what I have been saying for years. If I need something, I need it now - NOT two days from now. It would be nice to see a dividend, but O.D. has never been a company to "give" its money to anyone except the upper management.. Maybe things will change. We will have to wait and see.
Good for you! It is getting clse to mine. I am about ready to do the same. But it will probably go way up right after I sell. :)
I agree. This is getting old. But sure as hlle as soon as we get rid of it, the frigging thing will probably go up to $20. hahahahaha :)
Credit Suisse seems to think it would be a good idea, and that it would be possible given the wording made about the O.D./O.M. merger. There would be one office supply retailer remaining to fight it out with Amazon and the others. The few companies that I am associated with in this area still get most of their supplies from O.D or Staples. Nobody wants to walk around a 40 acre building to find paper, pencils, or other things that they need NOW. I think one more merger would be very interesting. :)
Two upgrades this month: Credit Suisse and Goldman with a price target of $7.00
Tsk Tsk Tsk. You are wrong. Office Depot is the ONLY company int he entire country that pays as little as they can get by with to their employees. :) .... I couldn't type that without laughing. :)
