Personally, I think it takes a lifetime to build a reputation and one rumor to destroy it. That's just the way people are. And Barron's, like all publications, wants to sell papers. They go for the bleed to lead. But there still is a point where you go too far too many times and rather than censor a publication on what might or might not be reasonable criticism, I'd bring back the uptick rule which worked so well. It has to be obvious that the retail investor deserves some degree of protection from the unscrupulous.

The Editor(s) at Barron's decides what to publish and when Barron's published not one, not two but three articles in quick succession last year, that even spurred the SEC into action, we saw a selling frenzy ensue. Line Energy was mercilessly attacked by hedge funds and other short sellers who all cited Barron's published articles and their authors as fuel to their fire. We all now know what transpired in the Berry and other deals and in hindsight, shareholders were given a gift of cheaper prices to buy into Line energy. But those that did buy in at higher prices, are continually buffeted by the winds of what Barron's chooses to allow to be published. I suppose that's true of any publication or website for that matter, but at some point the Editor and their Boards of Directors bare some responsibility, don't they?
